Skull Mad Max 1

Post by MFP 508 »

Hello
Does this skull in the beginning of Mad Max 1 have a special meaning?

It was on the lead up to a lot of dangerous cross roads. It means dangerous intersection ahead.

Is it a real sign for the australian traffic or just fantasy?

It was a real road sign only used in Victoria in the 1970s

They were real?

Shit man, I didn't know that!

Probably explains why the teeth reminded me of police checker-stripe.

There was discussion about the skull markings on here quite a while ago...
Apparently they were visible still on google earth photos circa 2002? though faded.

I had always assumed that they were only used in the movie as well, but those people from Victoria are different... :D

I've always been told as well that the skull was already painted on the road where they filmed it. Had not heard previously that was an "official" marking of any kind, but when you look at how neatly it is laid out, it does look more official than graffiti.

I was also told that it was visible for many years after the film, although no one was ever able to give me a specific location on this one.

I grew up in Victoria during the 70's and 80's, I don't remember these.
That's not to say they were around.
LTDHO = Supercharged Intercooled 5.7L 360rwkw, 6 speed

XB Coupe = Stock Fairmont GS with 351 and 4 speed.

But I really want a 600rwhp XB coupe!
