Er.... and the fact it is a movie and purely fantasy doesn't mean anything?

We could go on and on about how the set up the Interceptor will also never work in reality.(The Interceptor on/off super charger "could" be made to work, If you had the $$$$).. or how the XB Falcon never had "Phase four" heads, twin over head cams.... etc etc.....

MM2 was more a visual movie, with little dialog.
Most of the modified cars featured were left overs from a world which no longer exsisted.
The Landaus set up, while obviously "dangerous" in real life, could be made to work with some effort.
But in the MM2 world, in sure "safety" was high on the priority of everyone in the wasteland....

A lot of the knock-offs of MM2 jumped past the blurred lines of reality (or what could be believable) and were so poorly made that they were simply not believable. Pure fantasy takes over.
We are 100% snafu....

Draw through turbos can and do work but as said have certain disadvantages.

It is highly unlikely the fuel will combust on the cold side of the turbo though, it's hard enough to start it combusting on the hot side as in anti-lag systems.

The idea of a draw through system is the carb is always under vacuum rather under pressure. Which is some ways is safer, it would also be unlikely to find a carb manufactured to run under pressure in the wasteland leaving anyone salvaging little choice.

It would start fine but would probably take some cranking over to kick in, the engine will draw enough vacuum to draw the mixture through. The mixture would probably pool badly though making it prone to back firing through the intake system. Revs and boost will be dependant on the turbo sizing, it's volume of air that counts, look at how well low revving turbocharged diesels work.

Potential power increase would be very significant on a small bock V8 even just running 6psi. I've run 9psi through similar age engine on similar standard compression and got in the region of 50bhp more.

My main grumbles with the setup is the aforementioned hood top arrangement, I could image a system which seals the intake side of things but the oil lines would still be a real problem. But for me the real flaw is the non-filtered non-intercooled setup in a desert environment. That engine would be running stinking hot and sucking in hot sand and dust all the time, I just can't imagine it lasting long at all.

It is clear the arrangement was done mostly for cinematic effect, however I do think the art department deserve much kudos for the setup on cars like this. Not only does it have impact in terms of looks but is reasonably achievable. Same goes for the setup on the Interceptor and vehicles such as the Lone Wolf.

As stated in the previous, this is a functional and surely the easiest way to make a turbo set-up. A mate of mine has been turbocharging kwaka's since the '80's and he says this was a quite normal way to do it in the 70's when the people he learned turboing from started. It is even possible that the kits on the hood of the Landau is pieced together from two aftermarked bike kits, like the setup on Wez's bike.

Too bad the Landau didn't get more screen time in the movie - I thought it was one of the coolest cars. Would have been a cool car for Max to "inherit" at the end of the movie (instead of the open-seater two-engine jobber he apparently got).

Yes, but it was pretty well smashed tho.

the front bumper is off a 57 buick and the rear bumper is a 59 Bonneville.

BTW You can see the Landau wreck dumped in the pit surrounding the compond in MM2. I think it's just after the pink car isset on fire by the flame thrower. It's sticking arse-up near the bus/gate. It's trashed but you can recognise it by the unusual chrome arches around the back mud guards.
