"Chin wag" just means "talked". It's slang, I didn't actually think that one was specifically Australian slang, maybe it is.

I agree with the comment on Gibson being a "poor communicator" on this one. And it's not like he's a poor communicator generally. There does seem to be a bit of double talk, and some answers that aren't exactly straight down the line, which seems like the door is still being left open for some possibility. But it does sound very much to me at this point that if Gibson is in it, it certainly won't be one of the major roles. Sounds like there is "definitely maybe" a possibility of featuring in there somewhere, but that it could still quite easily go either way. I wouldn't count on seeing him in it at this point.

Trying to interpret what Mel's saying is difficult (and ultimately pointless) when the interviewer fails to report exactly what was said. Except for Dark Horizons' snippet, all these quotes from Mel we're seeing on the net are coming from the some press conference. A bunch of "reporters" were lobbing questions at Mel and Ray Winstone and each, in turn, reported what they thought they heard him say. Unfortunately, each had Mel saying something different in response to the same exact question. For instance, Mel was asked whether he had ruled out a cameo in Mad Max 4 and the "reporters" in attendance provided the following responses.


Q: Mel, have you ruled out a cameo in "Mad Max"?
Gibson: No, no. We just talked.

Even the question is paraphrased in that last one!

It remains to be seen in what context his "No, not at all" was said to Dark Horizons, as it's quite different from his "I honestly don't know" that he (apparently) gave to everyone else at the conference.

If Mel is not playing Max, how would a cameo work? For the credibility of the story,surely it is all or nothing.

Its either Mad Max 4 or it is a spinoff from something in the previous three films and that doesnt really work for me.
If Mel cant do it, give it to Worthington, give him a free licence on the part and set it either between 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 and lets get it on.

My feeling is, if Mel's in it, hopefully he's motivated by the opportunity to play the role thereby giving a good performance rather than feeling forced to be in MM4 and giving a blase impression. Seems like it's hard to tie Mel into anything except a long time after MM3 based on his current age. But if anyone could do a good job in whatever role they come up with, Mr. Gibson could!

Corny - \ˈkȯr-nē\ - adjective - mawkishly old-fashioned : tiresomely simple and sentimental. Well, if that's what he thinks of the idea, then so be it. Being Mel himself and having read the script, he'd know better than anyone.

"It's going to be the best one". A bold statement, but what else was he going to say, especially if he's still co-producing it? I'm more certain now than ever that Hardy is really going to be Max and that's why Mel doesn't even have a cameo. Can't have two guys playing the same character. Given the other things I've read, it also sounds like it was more Miller's idea to recast rather than go with Mel.

Dark Horizons said they'd put up their full Mel interview "later in the week". Well, it's the end of the week (Saturday) in Australia where DH is based and still no interview.

I have NEVER been surprised by Mel's non involvement in this most recent incarnation of FURY ROAD.

The reboot trend thats re-shaping established Hollywood properties.
Sony ditching Tobey Maguire and resetting Spider-Man for a younger tween Twilight generation.

The fact that Hardy is in his thirties is a great start ... so I'm now sure he'll be taking over the Max character.

Ultimately we - the die hards - will make up a fraction of 1 percent of the B.O. take for the new film.

The audience this film is being made for - the majority, the mass market / those that stand in line to see Twighlight and Avatar this year weren't even alive for the first three films. They have never had a connection to Mel...and will be looking for there own incarnate of the character if the story is good enough.

The tragic thing is the discussion of the hard-core fans saying that they will boycott the new Mad Max.

Reading all the speculation of Mel returning has been fun and all, but the above is actuality. "WE" wanna see him; the rest of the world of entertainment-seekers could care less...

Are you, guys, really trusting Mel Gibson on this?! KMM didn't even make a statement yet on the final cast. 3 months after the previous press conference, I think a new one is in the works to announce if Mel is in it or not. So... Mel have to wait KMM's green light before saying anything definitive. I think Mel is just trying, say, to not repeat himself with this specific answer (it must be a hard job to do while promoting a new movie and answering a lot of "Fury Road questions" from a horde of journalists)... So my point is: why announce this today after so many elusive answers before?
