Cranked out a bunch boots, both with and without spoilers. The front two have been filled and roughly fit to the model. The rest are raw.



I made a pass at doing the bonnet with a mold I made for resin. Not so much luck... the mold expansion produced too many voids in the casting. I'm going to re-make the mold and use lost wax casting.

Just for the hell of it I attempted to fill the voids of the bonnet casting.

Finally got my workroom back in order last night, and got the modeling bug again.

So, I took the plunge and blew apart one of my AutoArt interceptors to test fit the parts I cast for it.I removed the tanks and installed one of the metal boots I cast and painted... the fit is pretty good and the paint was a good match [Duplicolor import black]. The front fascia is a good fit, but I had to scallop the side fascia in front of the fenders to make it more "correctly" follow the wheel well. The boot spoiler is okay, but I'm going to have to redesign the spoiler ends that came on the model, since they are asymmetrical from the factory and cause a droop on one side. Not really that noticeable until you connect the two ends with the boot spoiler.

There are a lot of bits yet to make, and the molding/casting is expensive and time consuming, so probably not.

I will, however, be happy to share any extra parts I have with people who need them. I usually have a few extras or "factory seconds" lying around.

Thanks. Haven't had much free time to model, so it's been on my bench for a long time. But now I'm committed to finishing it, now that the parts are all there.

I'm pretty sure you can still get the 1:18 AutoArt Interceptors online for around $130-$150:

The conversion kit was a problem when purchased on eBay... I guess the guy was unreliable with delivery, and some people were even ripped off. I think Monsters in Motion straightened him out, though... I got my kit in a couple of weeks. The good thing about going through MIM is that you aren't charged until they receive and inspect the kit from the supplier. Might take a while, but it's low risk.

That it is, but still cheaper than buying an XB GT for $200 plus an interceptor for $150 to make one.
