TOM HARDY IS THE NEW MAX

Just briefly read on MTV movie blog that Tom Hardy has been cast as....Mad Max.

Now, MTV did post an interview with Hardy on their main website. In it, Hardy said he was cast as the lead in the movie, but failed to actually say that he is playing Max. Does your source have Hardy saying something else?

Yes, I do understand how someone could read "I didn't expect to get "Mad Max"" as meaning the character. I, however, interpret it as meaning the movie.

No,actually what got me is when they said he would be taking over Mel Gibson's crazy role.

Well, "they" said it, not Hardy. Still, "they" clearly believe it to be so. I don't know. It could be true, but it just looks a little weird to me. Instead of proclaiming "I can't believe I'm playing the iconic Mad Max", Hardy talks about being cast in the "lead role", as if he's been told not to mention Max by name or something. Just say "I'm gonna play Max! Yipee!!!" for cryin' out loud.

One month after the press event, what a "disappointing" news... well... a weird one, at least... More concrete news on the lead are more than welcome now (KMM, if you read this! )

star as the titular character in George Miller's long-awaited return to our grim post-apocalyptic future in "Mad Max: Fury Road."

BUGGER! Well I guess that answers that question....... Althought I think maybe (hopefully) it could be possible that he is playing Max's son rather than Max himself and Mad Mel does a cameo as Max. If Hardy is playing Max then the movie's almost gotta be a prequel as he's way younger than Max in Returd To Thundercrap.
