Re: Max style boots
I used the 17" Chippewa engineer boots mentioned on the site for my MFP boots. I modded the straps to more resemble the Rossiter style. I think they came out pretty good. I'll post some pics of them soon.
BootsUSA.com carries factory blemish boots at really good prices. I paid $129 for my boots.

Re: Max style boots
I just picked up a pair at www.Leatherup.com for $72 + $8 shipping . Go to motorcycle boots then click on the Exelement engineer boots. Nice boot will definately fit the bill.

Re: Max style boots
Ok, sorry, just my opinion. We will spend 400 on a jacket that we will barely use but we are looking for cheep boots.

Had mine for 4 years now, wore out and replaced the soles a few times and still wear them riding, used to fly in em when we wore black boots with the uniform. Yes, bit expensive but nice and made to your feet.
Don't settle for Mad Max "style" boots, get a pair of Mad Max boots.
Just my 2 cents...

Re: Max style boots
You guys should definitely check Karol's www.madmaxcostumes.com (and specifically the special section on boots) before you spend a lot of money on Mad Max boots. Unless you really need boots custom made to your feet, you can get more accurate boots a lot cheaper than $400.
I've seen a pair of Russian boots that were modified for a total cost of $250 next to a pair of real Mad Max Rossiter boots and I honestly can't tell the difference. Depending on how much custom shoe work costs in your area, and how cheap you can get the army surplus Russian boots (I was lucky enough to get a pair on eBay for about $15 one time) you may even be able to get a pair of screen accurate boots for significantly less than 250.
I have no doubt that the boots from Motorcowboy are very high quality, but they're not 100% screen accurate (for those who care about that sort of thing).

Well, I kind of differ on Karol's review of the boots and I still care about accuracy. I have a set, buckles were changed to match (no charge), belts lengthened, and overall the boot's details match up very well, including the heel stitching, overlap of the upper to lower section (most boots are constructed underlapped), and more important they fit exactly to you. If you ask you can get them with cobbled leather soles, unlined uppers to give them the same "unstiff" look, and even a softer leather. I don't know if they fixed the buckles with the set I sent them. If not you can do what I did and get better buckles from Tandy Leather, then I shipped them to the company and he deducted my cost from the boots. If you ask you could probably get a discount. Like I said, had mine for 4 years and wear them quite a bit. IMO, comparing the two shots I would give them 4 or 5 stars over the 3 Karol given, just a difference of opinion.jwrites wrote:I have no doubt that the boots from Motorcowboy are very high quality, but they're not 100% screen accurate (for those who care about that sort of thing).
I don't get a discount nor have credit with Motorcowboy and yes they are expensive. My point is; why mess with ordinary engineer boots or try and modify jack boots? The option is there to get a set of custom Mad Max boots you can wear a hell of a lot more than the Mad Max Jacket you spent 400 dollars on.
Even the Abby Shot jacket isn't 100% correct, main thing being the front zipper is completely exposed and not semi-covered and the jacket is not taper cut but flare cut but it is the best jacket out there.

Re: Max style boots
Mike,
Glad you're happy with the motorcowboy boots, but tell me: what good is a company that specializes in replica boots when their customers have to specially request
1. Different buckles
2. Longer belts
3. Cobbled soles
4. Unlined uppers
5. Softer leather
just to make their Mad Max boots screen accurate? Do you not see something wrong here?
I knew as soon as they asked me, "We were going to line the boots; is that OK?" that they had no clue what a replica was. And come on, how hard can it be for them to just order a pack of the right buckles?
Until Motorcowboy posts a photo of a more accurate version of the boots, I'll continue to recommend the modified Russian boots that capture the look & feel, and almost all of the details. And that $250 includes the boot harnesses for MM2&3.

Hey Karol,
Considering those are my boots in the picture I wondered the same thing, especially after near 5 years and why they didn't take it after the correct modifications. In fact, mine did come with leather soles and they lasted about 7 months of use, by the time of the Road Warrior I believe they are no longer leather soles. When I get back from Afghan I will take some picture, they have worn and are bunched up like in the MM.
As for your comment, I asked the same thing from Abby Shot on the the flare and covered zippers but in the end I still got the jacket. In the end I have found that those making money off of "replica" products rarely get everything 100% and I have always had to add or change things.
Get home in a few months and I will send you pictures.
