I first posted this in a FURY ROAD tread but it fits here as well.

I was first exposed as a kid to the mad max world via thunder-dome. I was ten years old. My mother took myself & my two cousins to see it cause we saw the trailer and begged her until she gave in. With all the action & kids & whatnot we were hooked. That was marketing at its best, I'm sure there were alot of 10 year olds & whatnot that were begging there parents to see it. That's probably why their were kids even in it. It wasn't until years later that I saw 1 & 2 and got more involved & fell in love with the story. As an adult, reading the books & whatnot I wish the BTD story would have been better. But I'll always have fond memories of seeing it for the first time & being blown away as a kid. Plus
it introduced me to the mad max world..........

 Funny story, I remember after seeing the movie, my uncle had a working out area in my cousins basement. I remember taking down the punching bags & hooking up bungee cords. We hooked them to are belt loops & we could bounce around. We'd pillow fight and imitate the thunder-dome scene from the movie. It didn't work all that we'll, but what the heck we were 10. I remember them snapping off all the time & us getting bumps on are heads from them snapping down on are heads.

Hmmm....let's see. I first caught Road Warrior on HBO with my dad when I was about 8 or so, which would have been about '83. Then I caught Mad Max about a year or so later, but MM2 still kinda stuck in my head since it was almost all about the cars and I was a car crazy kid for as long as I could remember!

Now enter about year 2000. A friend of mine was headed to Australia to visit a friend in Sydney. About that same time, I was reading a side article in Super Chevy magazine about the Aussie Monaro GTS. So for giggles I tried to do a yahoo search on Aussie muscle cars, and up came the Ford Falcon XB, which made a mention of the Mad Max films. And then I saw the interceptor once again!!! And what lay dormant in my brain for ages came roaring back like a blown V8! So I learned all I could about that car, and some others including the HQ Monaro and Aussie Charger. Wow, muscle cars exist somewhere other than the USA! That concept blew my mind at the time!

Then life catches up with me. Got married, had a child, and the Aussie car/Mad Max stuff went on the back burner. Then one day I was fumbling through a flea market and came across a vendor selling old VHS tapes, 3 for $5. So I took a look and found The Blues Brothers, Smokey and the Bandit, and.....MAD MAX!!! Once again, it came roaring back into my brain and from that moment on, it's been stuck and it ain't letting go!

Then in '06, I happened across madmaxmovies.com once again and came across the forum. And that as they say is history.

What's next? Well, a trip to Oz definitely. Probably spring/summer of '09. Perhaps a replica, but for me that's a bit of a reach. But time will tell! :D

It's great to read all these stories. Thanks for posting them.

Cliff notes of my story. I saw Mad Max. Who wouldn't become a fan?

I saw Mad Max when it was in the theaters here in the US in 1979/1980. When I saw the Interceptor it immediately struck a chord with me. The scoop was the meanest thing I had ever seen on a car. I didn't know the film was done in Australia and since the steering wheels were on the wrong side and I couldn't quite identify the cars I figured they were all made up especially for the movie. I accepted the fact that I could never have an Interceptor.

I was big into cars after that, but I also got married at a young age, almost 21. We started a family right away and I had all that to deal with. The 1968 Charger I bought to work on when I was 18 had to go away for lack of space, time, and money about 4 years after we were married. BTW, yes, we are still married.

At the age of 39 (2003) I happened to catch The Road Warrior on tv. I couldn't remember the last time I saw it, might have been when it was in the theaters. After it was over I decided to see what was online about the Mad Max movies. Ultimately I found Peter's site (it's all his fault, bless him) and I read the history of the Interceptor section. I almost had a heart attack when I read that it was built from an Australian PRODUCTION car. When I found there were resources to build your own replica I was in Utopia. Now there is a car in my garage from Australia waiting to get media blasted to start the transformation. That was all it took.

About 5 years back, when I was searching the p2p net for new movies, "the road warrior" popped up at a list. I already liked cars and action movies. So, 'road warrior' sounded very cool to me and I got the movie. The post apocalyptic genre was completely new to me so I never expected a movie like this one. I immediately loved it and after a search on the net I found out it was the second piece of a trilogy. I also got me the other 2. MM1 was a bit strange to me at first because it is a low budged cult movie and I never watched this type of movie befor. But later on I liked that one to. Well, maybe not that melodrama piece in the middle entirely but most of it, yes. I like MM3 also but it was indeed a great mistake to make it PG-13. Max has become to soft, but it has some great action. After a while I found out they had the trilogy box in a store neerby so I bought it.

I also continued my search to PO and cult movies and must say I have got myself a pretty collection. Some movies still only in DivX, but that's because I haven't found them on DVD yet or they are not available here in the Netherlans.

"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

For me it all began back in 1979 when I went to the opening night. I was so taken by the BoB, never seen anything like it, so for five days in a row I saw the movie. My friends thought that I lost my mind. I couldn't get the car out of my head. I spend hours drawing the BoB. Back then there was no internet and in general the interest here in Denmark wasn't that great, so I had a hard time getting any information on the Interceptor. All my cars have from that point on been inspired by Mad Max, like black paint and fat rear tiers. My dream was of cause to one day have my own BoB. When I finally realized that it never goanna happen I started to seriously modify my car (British Ford Capri 1970 ). And thanks to Peter's site I have had a lot of inspiration and valuable information. So with a little luck it will be ready for this summer. Thanks, all you guys for keeping me motivated.

Not to get too far off topic, but to blown215, got any recent shots of the Capri? I remember you posting ages ago and I always wondered what happened with the car.

Well, lack of time and money has keept me from doing anything with the car for the last half year but during the last month I've been working on the car again. I'm trying to work out how to link the blower to the engine with an a/c clutch. I'm also trying to make some zoomies and I had to redo the mounts that holds the nose/front wings.I'll post some pic's sone.

Like Rick, I got there through Thunderdome. My first trip to the drive-in/walk-in without the olds. 14yrs old. Sat right in front of the screen with a bunch of mates, smoking, spitting, troughing and swearing at nobody in particular. The sound through the tinny speakers was shitty, but the spectacle was mind-blowing. Spent the rest of my tender years quoting the films like a drip feed.

I got back into it all about 15 years later when I was living in South Korea. They showed the yank version of Mad Max on the local cable channel, and even that travesty made me homesick. Went immediately online to get a hit of guzoline, and Pete's site appeared at the top of the list.

Great site. Too bad it ain't tended to so much any more.
