STreet Racings is over,the fast and Ridiculous movies put the nails in the coffin.I used to street race back in the mid 90's.I cuaght the last gasp of real street racing i.e only a few of us were out there and we knew the roads were clear and only the big dogs did the serious money drags.I raced my 78 Trans Am and only did it waaaaay out west of my town in the boonies and we insisted on NO dumb ass punk kids hanging around getting too close to the cars racing ect. its all bullshit nowadasy and the only time i race anything is another car at the dragstrip with my 74 Gremlin drag car.

We get alot off "street racing" in this part of QLD with many fatalities.
Thing is, most aren't racing, just kids driving too fast in "mums car".
The worst thing is anyone woh spins a wheel or does any burnouts are instantly put in the hoon catergory, regardles of age, vehicle or skill.
Many young kids pouring oil on the spinning tires are called "illeagal drag racers"
as a parent It's very worrying.

Bart is correct, street racing pretty much peaked in the '80's and early '90's. Now I see the ricer/tuner crowd doing things we'd never dream of doing, racing in the residential neighborhoods, in city traffic, in shopping center parking lots, and just being generally obnoxious. No respect for anyone or anything. We used to go to great efforts to get as far away from population as possible. I once ran into a retired city cop who used to try to bust us in our activities. We had a sort of mutual respect, as long as we stayed clear of his jurisdiction there would be no trouble. But if we gave him a reason, expect the wrath of god. I took it as a compliment when he said that he wished my generation was still the street crowd. As bad as he thought we were, the current ones are worse. No style, no respect.

It's gotten ridiculous with the tuner crowd these days. I dont understand what it is, they have no respect for people on the roads who are just trying to get somewhere. We drive a Honda Accord, It has a nice set of wheels on it and tinted windows, but beyond that its just our everyday mode of transportation. Yet when where sitting at a stoplight, these bone heads will pull up next to us revving there engines wanting to race. Either not seeing or not caring that we have two kids in the backseat, they just need to prove to everyone that they have a faster car. I was young once, I used to cruise the drag on Saturday night. (when gas was only 60 cents a gallon )
There would always be someone who would want to race. But the majority of us would take it to a country road outside of town.
the only thing out there was a small municipal airport and open fields. If a car did venture out that way it could be seen for miles.
Not like these punks these days who race through traffic with no concern except winning.

This was not just a gathering of punk kids out spinning tires. It was a group of 50 people so it was it must have been fairly well known. One of those killed was 61 years old. These were familys of car people who neglected to remember that other people use the roads too. In our modern times public roadways should not be used like this. It just isn't safe. Hopefully others will learn from their mistakes but I doubt it.
Interesting to note that no one gave up the drivers of the cars that were racing.

The lack of respect from the younger generation is so apparent its not funny.
They not only dont care about themelves, but others as well.

Just recently a teenage girl (16) was caught doing over 155km/h in a 100km zone.
She was unlicenced, in an unregistered car which had major steering defects.
Add to this her 17yrs old friend was heavliy pregnant and there was a 2yr old in the car.

Last year another 16yr old girl (also no licence) decided that "road closed" signs meant nothing and drove around them. The causeway ahead was 2 meters underwater and she drove straight into it.
At night mind you. Her mums car was washed away some 200meters downstream. Did i mention her drunken mum was in the car also? Hence why daughter was driving....... The rescue cost some $10000.....

There were at least 12 cars which ended up in peoples yards or inside peoples homes! All caused by drunken teens and under 25s. Most of these drivers also ran away from the accident.


The hooning problem is just part of it..... If they had any sort of intelligence, repect, then this sort of thing wouldnt happen. Trouble is most of the blame can be laid squarely at parents feet.

As a teenager you cant apply for a bank loan, so parents go guarantor for the loan of an ultra-expensice car they cant handle. Instead of buyin some piece of shit as a first car or working their ass off to save their own cash, they get handed the money on a platter. This means they wont have respect for their car as they didnt "earn" it.....

When i had my XB Falcon on the road i would be harrassed DAILY by some young idiot wanting to race. A Hyundai, a Honda Civic, Mazda bravo ute! Commodores, Barina....... it got to the point where i rarely drove the car..... coupled to the fact the police would pull me over almost everyweek too....

But you see this sort of street racing all the time in suburban streets or amoung normal city commutors in peak hour traffic... they simply dont care...
