Made some real progress on the boot lid spoiler this week: sanded a bunch, filled and sanded some more, then shot a 'quick and dirty' coat of semigloss black on it. It needs more finish work before it's really ready for paint, but I'm pleased with it.


About an hour after shooting pics on Saturday morning, the whole shell was packed up and in the hands of Mr. Postman....next stop? Draknoir2's house.

Spoiler looks geat, manx! Can't wait to see it in person. Seems like we have a lot of stuff coming together at once... along with the release of the new BoB models.

I'm curious to see how Manx's boot spoiler will fit to the MM2 BoB's side spats. If they're drastically different, any suggestions?

Let me know how the mold turns out on the nose...hopefully it isn't sticky/slimy like the silicone we sometimes use at work.

I got Manx's model last night. I'm assuming Autoart used the same tooling for the MM2 BoB body as the XB GT, so the spoiler should fit. I'm going to cast all three spoiler bits in place as one piece, so it can be easily mounted and then cut in two places.

I'll de-mold the nose tonight. It wasn't tacky to the touch last night, but the areas where I spilled some on the table were. The residue in the mixing bowl was mostly cured, so I'm optimistic. Worst case, I have to do it over.

The master nosepiece de-molded just fine, and the mold is now completely cured. The resin is superfast, and I screwed up the first cast by overestimating the pot life, but otherwise, no foaming. There is one problem with the mold... when I pressed the part onto the clay in the mold box, the side fascia sunk a tiny bit into the clay, causing a loss of about 1/32" off the bottom on both sides nearest the fenderwell. I might be able to get it back with overpour, though.If not, I'll do another mold. The screwed up cast looks pretty good, as far as detail goes. I'll give this one an hour before I de-mold it, and then I'll post a pic.

It's not perfect... there are a few of bubbles. The resin is way too fast, and I don't have time to vacuum out the air, but a slower plastic will solve that. I think I did a fair job of matching the color of the plastic to the tango paint, though.

Thanks. The dimensions held, as you can see... the repro snapped right into place just like the original.

You know, I'm not sure I want to lose the Tango paint scheme at this point...

I think this weekend I'll give the boot spoiler a crack.

The Autoart spoiler looks more bolt on than Manx's. My plan is to do a complete three piece cast of his spoiler for retrofitting an XB GT model, and then, when the new model arrives, using a donor boot lid to fab up just the center part of the boot spoiler to mate up with the side spats. Two spoiler sets with two looks... bolt-on and glassed-on.

With the excellent color match and the quality of the appearance that thing is just plain scarey!!!! Great job!!
