goose fairing search continues

Post by rt green »

i put in an email to mad max cars yesterday[sat]. see if they respond. their site says no project to tuff. we'll see. also about a month ago, i sent a letter to Replico in south oz. was reading some old sites before i found this one, asking for a price on the goose fairing. no responce yet, but i dont think they hace the molds anymore.
found the tail piece, or at least one close to it. airtech has a tail piece #vesco3. what i understand to be about 135.00 usd. dont want to buy quite yet, want to find the fairing first. the hunt continues- later, bruce

Hiya Bruce,

I have been working on this very issue for years.

If you read the thread started a few days ago titled, "Gooses Kwaka replica" and the much older, more complete thread that I started a while ago titled, "Fairing woes for Goose bike builders" you can get a ton of good knowledge really quickly and save yourself a bunch of e-mails to folks who no longer have the fairing and don't want to talk to us.

You are correct, Airtech streamlining has a tail piece that is very close if not a perfect match for the tail piece.

It is a tad pricey in my opinion.

As for the fairing, very little is currently available other than the occasional Ebay find of an original MkI La Parisienne.

There are several efforts in the works, and who knows, hopefully at least one of them will bear fruit in 08.

One of those efforts is my own, and another is via madmaxcars.com on the west coast.

I fully intend to work with the guys at MMC if my computer aided approach is the first option to bear fruit.

Some of us here on the forum have already completed this journey and can ride around on some truely awesome Kwakas.

The threads mentioned above have pics that will make you drool.

There are currently about 10 of us (or so) who are right beside you in our efforts to build the bike.

You have lots of company, and the past threads have a TON of info to help you.

Welcome again!

hey bozz, ya, i've been through the threads here. and i must say, it just makes me want one more. what i want to build however is a toecutter bike. has the same fairing, as you know. saw one on a forum called pashnit or something like that, and thats what gave me the bug.it isnt movie correct, but he has the fairing. said he got it from replico in south oz.
i did look up that twowheels.com, and are they a biker mag? or are they a salvage buisness? i dont know. you'd think that they would want to make some coin on the purchuse of the molds. oh, the guy named mike that has the fairing on his bike says he paid 500 usd shipped to LA CA. hell, i'd pay that if i could get one. who was the guy how had a upper red fairing, and a black lower fairing in the other thread? i know its not for sale, but too bad you couldnt get that setup to your fiberglass guy to copy. gee, the guy could have some cash, plus have his parts undamaged. just thinking too hard about this. bruce

Then let me propose this: What about a fresh mold for the fairings? Does anyone know the dimensions or can they get the dimensions of the plastic? I would be willing to invest in a mold just so everyone around the world who speaks English can get a set. I've done business with the guys at Airstream (or Airtech) who make the tail piece that is a close match, but different. If demand was high enough then they would probably want to construct the molds for the fairings. I'm also working with some bike groups in Japan who speak English to see if anyone can contact the Whitehouse company. If anyone can get the specs, or knows the dimensions of the fairings then let me know. I'm kinda stubborn when it comes to a project that I put my mind to so I won't be leaving this one alone anytime soon.

I know that madmaxcars.com is currently working on the Faring issue. I believe that they are currently hunting down an original mk1 faring upper and lower, and have the tail piece in development as well. As the currently available molds are not quite film correct, it is the logical cource of action (why sepnd energy chacing down the wrong part).

MMC has a pair of clients with Goose bike builds going, so it stands to reason they need to build the parts. They have a pretty high build standard for their composite parts that no standard manufacturing facility would match so I am reasonably sure they will not purchace finished units elsewhere. It has been sugested to get a whitehouse bike and make molds from those parts, but as Bozz pointed out, they are also not quite correct.

I do know that if anyone came up with a correct mk1 faring combo( before MMC obtains one) , they could reasonably expect the "loan" to be worth their time.

Just to keep everyone in the loop,

I am in the process if taking some very high res pics of my Z with reference grids in the photos.

With these and some photo shopping I can compare the film stills and the few pics I have of MkI uppers off of the bike.

I am pretty confident that I can take these measurements from the film and all the reference photos and create a 3D model of the fairing in the computer.

While this will certainly take me some time to accomplish, we will then collectively have some thing to work from, even if it is only a digital asset.

I have access to a 3D printer that prints in ABS plastic.

I can then print out the model full scale and take a mold from that.

It will take me a while to accomplish this, but it is at least something.

If an original MkI can be acquired to take a mold from in the mean time, then so much the better.

Either way, we should have something to work from before too terribly long.

If anyone has access to a large format 3D printer, I am happy to share, as mine has a fairly small bed which will necessitate printing in about a dozen sections or so and then assembling before I can take a mold.

Also, anyone out there deal with plexi or acrylic? The windscreen may be a tough nut for me to crack with the resources in my shop.

Cheers,

Just remember the third generation paris fairing is air stream correct. Your installing a full fairing over a air cooled motor which needs air to flow past the fins. If you're going to go movie correct, you're going to burn your motor up. That has been an issue before.
