I'm new to the forum, but long time Mad Max fan, just wanted to shout out, I've really been enjoying reading about your experience and admiring the photo's. Can't wait to read & see more. You know, the Road Warrior my favorite movie for a couple reasons. #1) It's accurate Post Apocalyptic expeience from start to finish. #2) No CGI or cheesy special effects, what you see is what you get. You really get a sense of this from all the car crashes and action scenes like you biting into the arm of Guy Norris. Most films today (maybe it's because I'm older now) don't trick my imagination and I see through the bullshit and the acting and makes me feel like I'm wasting my time watching the flick. No matter how many times I see Road Warrior, I can taste the dog food, smell the dust & gas fumes, and feel the bite in my arm :) But the most important thing about the Road Warrior that most movies rarely even touch on is the bleak future or warning this film gives humanity. If we aren't careful, this is a very possible future. Just wanted to share my thoughts with you since you've been kind enough to share your memories with us, thanks.

Oh and my favorite part in the Saints is the whole toilet scene :)

Thanks Felix....I agree with your reasons for MM2 being your favorite...your right, I can see the world ending up like this if are not careful.
My absolute favorite part is also that scene as this is where you get the sense of the brother`s love and dedication to each other.

I noticed the avatar pic of Emil the other day, and it's perfect. Nightwalker has Goose and some others have other Max characters, but only Emil's is truely accurate. It's pretty cool...and ironic...or is that iconic?

I do have a question as to who was doing the stunt in one of the scenes...It's when the camera was positioned on top of the cab and looking down at the bonnet, when "The Feral Kid" crawled out to get the shells as the MACK was rolling (the scene looked like it was in slooow-moootion). Who was that? It looks more like an adult than a kid going by the size of the bonnet to the figure ratio.

Emil,
THANK YOU so very much for the real prespective, and all the great photos! I have been a fan since Mad Max 2 came out, and a regular here since the early days....... it is COOL BEYOND MESURE that you are willing to share your experiences & personal photos, and humble enough to relate and talk with us. I have been quietly watching this thread, enjoying the stories and exchanges, and (after you said it was expected) adding the posted photos to my collection. What a treasure it is to diehard fans like us.

If I could trouble you with one question? One of my personal favorite Vehicles from MM2 is the Red XA Bat (aka "Wipeout") Coupe that gets mashed by the tanker. Can you tell me ANY memories or small tidbits about that car, if only seeing it in the background, whatever it might have been or meant to you....

I am building a replica of it myself (you can see a few photos of it in the "Film & Replica cars" area, at the top of the "Rocky Bat Car" thread, and/or at http://www.madmaxcars.com), so you can see my intrest in your perspective on the real one.

I got to meet Vernon Wells at Roadwar NW in August, and he spoke very highly of you. I feel truly grateful to have the chance to connect with both of you.

Thanks again for everything.

Bronze....I`m gonna have a look myself and I`ll tell you if that was me or not. I don`t remember having a stunt double other than when i did the back flip...that was not me it was a girl called Melissa, i don`t recall another time but will let you know.

MFP1....what i remember about the red XA Bat car is that when it was up along side of the tanker I was shit scared of it as I was not only supposed to be scared of it as it was trying to attack us (in character) but even out of character I was still scared of this car as it was a very mean looking car at the age of eight and I recall never being able to see quite into the car through the front windscreen it was like it was tinted and I could not see the drivers and was somehow a scary thing for me not knowing what was inside. Also although It was exciting and fun to be on the side of a truck while it was going along, it was still a bit scary as you had the XA driving pretty close.

I have seen some of the photos on the site and I will check them out further.
I also have heaps of slides that I hav to go through and my mum has just found another album that I have not seen for years and i know it`s got alot of shots..hopefully there is some of the XA...I`ll let you know and post some if I find em.

Here is another from that scene...still more and i will add a few more stories with the pics to come...

These pics are great Emil. The "dromdeck" platform on the top of the frame, behind the cab, and the little block you're standing on to maul the Marauder is perfect. The pics also help us modelers out quite a bit as well.

Question: There were two MACK trucks and only one tanker trailer, right? I've noticed differences in the stacks during the course of the movie...i.e., welded to the cab versus not, the handles there or not, the different framework holding them...etc...

Hey Bronze...Not sure about this I have never looked that close so can`t tell you why.

SAM B R.W..... I remember Mel being a top guy, we did`nt hang out much (due to age gap)but he was always friendly and I do remember he often tried to help me with my character like what to do and things to add to my direction from George. There was a time when we were filming the scene after his crash and he is telling Papagalo that he will drive the tanker, papagalo`s right hand man(forgot his name) but he says "look at you you could`nt even drive a wheelchair" well mel had told me before filming this scene that when he says this that I should growl at him in defense fo Mel as though i understood that he was critisising him. But I did not do it as I was scared that George might get upset because he himself did not instruct me to do this.
I also remember there was a night that we were all having dinner ( I think it was the RSL or Legion club) well Mel shouted me a drink, it was called a TRAFFIC LIGHT consisted of lemonade and then three diferent coloured cordials layered to look like a traffic light but it was upside down ie green top amber middle and red bottom. I remember I stuck a straw into it and messed it all up by stirring it.
While I was up in Broken Hill my parents snuck me into the drive ins to watch MAD MAX 1 and afterwards we went back to Mel`s house where he was staying for a BBQ/Dinner...don`t remeber what we did but i can still picture the back yard.

Not much but this is what I recall.

here is the next picture to the story I have been telling.
I remember that I was not scared of Wez coming up from the front and so George had made Vernon up to look really bad ( heaps of blood etc) and on this next take when he grabbed my arm and I say his face I was petrified...
I read somewher on this forum I think that one of the fans had spoken to Vernon and even Vernon said that I kept laughing when he came up and it took alot of takes.
Here a shot of Wez he is putting a blood capsual in his mouth.

We are 100% snafu....
