If I were to do Night Riders car I would do it as it sat in the MFP garage, clean with the flares et all.

I think it might also depend on what condition the car is in to start with. I definitely would NOT trash a straight Monaro just to make it movie correct. I'd opt for the freshly built, squeaky clean version myself.
I've also considered the history of Nightrider's Monaro. Was this one also built to keep a valued member of the force from walking away? Sarse refers to it as a Pursuit Special in the opening chase, so apparently the cars do exist within the MFP already. Does every division or precinct have one at it's disposal, and is there a standard version of the P.S.? Or are these cars one-offs, built mainly as a form of bribery to keep top officers within the ranks.

If I started with a cheap rusty HQ shell, I'd have no problems beating it up to look movie correct. But yeah, no one in their right mind would pay good money for a good HQ coupe then "scuff" it up to Night Rider specs.

If it were me (and unfortunately at this time it is not), I would have two of them, one clean in perfect shape, the other beat up and "film correct". And also if it were me to win the lottery (and unfortunately at this time it is not), I would have it be a bizillion gagillion dollars.

Hey guy's some trivia for you.The NR vehicle was a pristine one ownered vehicle picked up in Noble Park(Melbourne) and was owned by an older couple.It was a Six cylinder LE model.The sound was dubbed from Murrays 318 hemi.The car was delivered to the production house then Murray and Grant page took it too task on the Doncaster freeway while it was getting built.According to Murray ,Grant bownced and scraped it up and down the rock freeway walls to weather the old girl.They even put real bullit holes through the body.The Filthy Holden got what it deserved........

But they must have shot the undergrond mechanic scene after they built the car but before they did all that stuff to it. It looked sharp in that shot.

The chase was the last thing to be shot, so in the garage scene the cars are still all shiny and new looking.
LAST V8, I thought I'd heard somewhere before that the Monaro was a six banger. That might explain why in one of the scenes in the opening chase, it appears that the dual exhaust on the car looks like it is swinging back and forth, as if it weren't connected to anything.

Also the LE Monaro, didn't it not come out until '76, which would have made the car an HX, not an HQ. And the two are a bit different... unless they put an HQ twin headlight front end on the HX LE...?
But I'm also reading that the LE came with a 308, a walnut dash, and crushed velour and cloth trim. So that wouldn't make sense with the 6 cylinder.
He probably remembered wrong and it was really an "LS".

Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't the Night Rider have single headlights?
I also thought about something else as I was driving home from work. In regards to a straight Monaro versus a "Night Riderized" Monaro, graphic artists can do some amazing stuff with an airbrush these days. It would be awesome if the scuff marks and dings could be achieved with airbrush effects. That would keep the Monaro purists happy. Just a thought.

re the monaro.ls monaro had a twin head light front woodgrane dash 202 6 cyl etc(they where a 2 door premer) the car that you see was a plan monaro ie 2 door kingswood could have been a 173/202/253/ or 308 my bet it was a 6 cyl 202 and it was a manual when you see the brake sean you can see the dash and the clutch pedel
