NEW interview for HAPPY FEET and Miller mentions the fate of Fury Road...

GEORGE MILLER- "Mad Max 4" is so prepared, there seems to be a lot of momentum for it to get done. Right now, I've got another, smaller film to do, and then we'll gear up and do "Mad Max" again. In what form and so on, I don't know. But it hasn't gotten stale in the meantime, and I'm very very keen to do it. It seems like there's the appetite out there.*

That's about all I can say at the moment. I'm finishing "Happy Feet" and preparing to do the next script while we gear up for that. I think the short answer is: If we have fair weather, we should get there. But being two films away, I just hate to put down that anything will happen. But there's a decent probability it will happen.

In Focus Magazine just published Mike Russell's interview with George Miller to promote the iconic writer-director's first directorial effort since 1998's "Babe: Pig in the City," an animated penguin musical titled "Happy Feet." But Mike and George spoke of other things. An excerpt:

GEORGE MILLER: "Mad Max 4" is so prepared, there seems to be a lot of momentum for it to get done. Right now, I've got another, smaller film to do, and then we'll gear up and do "Mad Max" again. In what form and so on, I don't know. But it hasn't gotten stale in the meantime, and I'm very very keen to do it. It seems like there's the appetite out there.

Another excerpt I found of interest:

IN FOCUS: A story in Daily Variety dated Dec. 10, 2002 reported that Mel Gibson had signed on for a fourth "Mad Max" movie. Does that mean the rumors about "Mad Max 4" being a prequel - focusing on Max's days in the Main Force Patrol - were always patently false?

GEORGE MILLER: Yeah. Yeah, they are.

It may bear noting that In Focus interviewed Miller in mid-September, about a month and a half AFTER all the unpleasantness in Malibu.

And a PODCAST interview with Miller where he mentions 3 very interesting hints as to the fate and future of FURY ROAD.

http://www.sceneunseenpodcast.com/

- MAD MAX IV was months away from shooting when the Iraq War killed it. The falling US dollar made it too expensive. It became too difficult to ship cars and equipment in and out of Muslim nations and impossible to insure a production taking place in such regions.

- Mel Gibson was going to reprise Max- but since version 1 - Mel's passion for acting has shifted to directing. Miller doesn't think that its a reasonable proposition any more - or even appropriate given the absolute commitment that would be needed to make an intense action film. Miller insists he is going to make FURY ROAD - but almost rules out Mel doing it. It looks like we are getting a new Max after all...

If they do cast a new Max I hope like hell that they use Eric Bana. He's Aussie, he's great actor, has the physical traits of the Max character and most importantly he OWNS a Falcon XB coupe . So I can't see a better choice.

Hmm..

If it Were a prequel.. I'd say.. Colin Farell.

Set after Thunderdome, or (and I'd dissagree with doing it) Instead of Thunderdome, I think we'd want a little bit older actor.

Russell Crowe, perhaps?

I think we should all just be glad that "Mad Max" had a sequel, and it was "Road Warrior"...

Got three words for those that think Recasting is the Kiss of Death.

"Bond. James Bond."

Risky, Yes.

But it can and does work.

The Man has more Story. Our Character isn't Done.

Just because the Actor thinks We're a bunch of Mad Max Trekkies and the part is Benieth him.. Doesn't mean the tale is Finished.
