Hello there Bronze21...

My name's Kirbydog. I have a couple of questions for you, which I hope you'll read and reply to. (I can only cross my fingers, but one can hope, right?)

I can see, from the pictures you posted recently in another thread, that you are the individual responsible for submitting the best (IMO) plastic models shown on Peter Barton's site. I am particularly interested in Max's Beyond Thunderdome buggy. I am in the process of creating my own from several 1/10 scale R/C trucks (and a lot of scratch-building.) I'm quite serious about the projects, but I'm running into a lot of problems identifying items in/on the truck (I don't have a DVD player, and my tapes are nearly worn out...) I'm documenting the build for my new website, which is in the early stages. (you can check it out here: www.freewebs.com/kirbydog )

I was wondering: would it be possible for you to send me some closeups, and/or some more detailed shots of the Beyond Thunderdome model, and maybe a list of items in Max's vehicle? Can anyone else help out in this regard? You would be fully credited in my website. I tried to send you some mail via the email address on Peter's website, but no luck. I'm sorry for posting this in public, since it's actually quite a private message, but... what the hell, right? We're all a big Mad Max family.

Thank you SO much,

Dan (Kirbydog)

p.s. -- In case anybody else reads this (I'm sure you will...) please feel free to check out my new website and send me some mail to tell me what you think! (note: It's nowhere near finished, and there are a lot of links that go nowhere for the time being.... when it's done, I'll submit it to Peter, so that he can replace my old, out of date web page on his links page.... )

Greetings. No worries, mate. I'll take some more pics this week and send them to you. I don't have the net at home anymore (raping me on the prices). As far as the model itself, it was built about 8(?) years ago now, and I used the Dodge VTS show truck, which is now innacurate...it's an XA-B sedan cab cut off. As far as the junk on and around the vehicle, it's not 100% movie correct. I simply took a "snapshot" point of view when gathering stuff to put on it. The items are a mix of 1:35 military, 1:24/25 automotive and a few scratch-built items and thrown on and in it. Some of the things are pretty close to the movie, but like in the front fender area where I thought it was a fuel can, I noticed later it was a silver toolbox, and it was when I only had the VHS format and not the zooming capacity of the dvd. Soooo, with that being said, if your doing a 1:10 RC version, I might recommend the doll house route for boxes and tools etc. A few hobbyshops carry the stuff, or go on-line. It's usually 1:12 scale, which will make the tires on the truck seem a little bigger if your using something like the Bearfoot kit as a base. Go to Goodwill or WallyWorld and pic up a poly-cotton shirt and use the back out of it for a large enough canvas for the connastoga, and the sleeves for the rolls on the left fender and at Maxs' feet up on the cowl. A fabric shop would have the same material. You can weather it with a wash of reduced brown/rust Testor's paint or use Rust-all.

If you need any more info, e-mail me at mailto:[email protected] and I'll answer anyones questions.

Cheers.

I've always (mistakenly) avoided the "Modelling" forum in case of seeing even more pics of Biker and Ade modelling for the cameraImage

Bronze.... thanks very much! I'm looking forward to the challenge. I'm actually doing two MM vehicles from 1/10 RC components. To keep things a little more true to the Mad Max universe, I'm not using any one kit as the base. Everything's Tamiya-based, but a lot of it is scratch-built. The basis for the Beyond Thunderdome vehicle is a Clodbuster body. (it's hard plastic, not lexan, so it'll be easier to work with and 'age.')

Thank you so much for your help! And congrats, by the way, on a fantastic MM collection.

Now, for all you other Mad Max fans out there -- go look at the website, and tell me what you think!!

Not quite a knitted woolen cardigan OHC it's one of those home spun woolen shirts you can buy in shops which sell Nepalese items. Just be glad I wasn't wearing the striped cotton pajama trousers! Alison hates me wearing 'em but I love 'em, they're really comfortable. The leather vest... yeah, well I had to try and attempt to look vaguely bikerish, the pink tutu and mickey mouse ears would have raised too many eyebrows, dontchafink?

While we're on the subject of Model making on the general forum. I had a look at Adrians models of the Interceptor and bog standard Falcons and this has made me even more keen to get my hands on a large scale version of the car, something like 1/18 scale if possible. I got laughed out of a model car shop in the UK recently when I asked but I wonder if I'd have better luck in Aussieland. Maybe some of you folks down under that live in a city (rather than the back of beyond) can enquire since the car is from Oz the chances of it being readily available there is more likely just as buying a model MGB would be easier for me to source in the UK.

If you happen to pass a model shop in your travels maybe you can drop in and ask if a Ford Falcon is available in 1/18 scale. I'd like it in kit form, not a completed "as is" model. Preferable in plastic rather than die cast metal. Thanks in advance chaps and chapesses.

BIKER: I'm afraid I haven't seen an 1:18 kit out of styrene or even resin. The biggest is 1:24/5 so far. I've even been searching the Japanese sites for the same and turned up nothing. I did however buy a Biante (diecast) 1:18 Tango XBGT and am modifying it to look like my car when it's done. It's VERY well detailed...they're even using screen in the bonnet scoops instead of the sticker on the clear plastic blocks now. They flocked the boot interior and carpet as well. The race car versions have nylon webbing for the belts now too. I could take pics of the Apollo Blue and the Tango if you like to show off some of the detail...to see if it's good enough for your purposes. I know it's diecast and about $150.oo US, but they're pretty sweet.

Thanks Bronze. Looking forward to seeing the pix. Put something in shot with them for scale too please like a pencil or something. I'm hoping for a model about 18 inches from bumper to bumper. I know it's a very long shot but ya never know eh?

I guess diecast would be OK, I'm handy with tools so adapting it to resemble the MM2 version of the car wouldn't be out of my range of abilities. "I got skills."

Please don't feel inclined to reply with the line "Sorry, the brothal's full" LOL!

Can't resist doing it can ya?

Why reply with the line, when you've already said it..."Eh? Eh 'ate?"

Really, the only actual cutting you'll have to do of the diecast, is the bonnet cutout for the blower and the backlight crossmember for the tanks. The rest is all additions. There's people making resin parts of Weiand Blowers in 1:18 on diecastpub.com now for $20.ooUS.
