Got a good deal earlier at Wal-Mart

Post by The Shape »

They have a big bin of DVDs you can dig through and they are two for eleven dollars. I found Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome. Didn't have any luck finding MAD MAX though. I bet I have seen Road Warrior a hundred times, but always viewed it from an OLD vhs I have had since I was a young kid. WOW it looks SO much better on DVD it was like seing it for the first time! Then I watched Beyond Thunderdome wich I haven't seen in probably 10 years (and now I remember why) Could they have made that movie any worse??? Was that their intention?? Anyway made it all the way through till the end. After watching it I realized the Fury Road project may be better off dead.

Now I just need to get MAD MAX on DVD.I wanna make sure I get the non-overdub version though. I watched it on AMC the other night with the original soundtrack. It is ALOT better without the overdubs. And of course just like RW I had seen it countless times, but always on my old worn out VHS.

I haven't seen Mad Max in any other DVD format since the Special Edition came out.

You might find the Non SE version out there somewhere, but the SE release is pretty clearly marked.

BTW, it's a double sided disk with US And Aussie sound.

(Think I watched the US version once when I bought the disk and haven't since) Image

I got a 3 disk boxed set of all three films on DVD last Chistmas. Like you Shape I had only seen them on VHS so seeing them on widescreen was a real improvement. Now try watching them on your PC (if you have a DVD drive that is) much higher resolution than a TV and you're up closer to the screen. I'd lost count of the amount of times I'd seen these films but seeing them via my PC was a whole new experience, I kid you not!

My DVDs have the language options inlucing the original Aussie and US overdub. When I saw MM back in 79 at the cinema it was the overdub version. The Aussie version, while good in some places sounded a little tinny most of the time, they needed the bass upped a bit. Also the girl on the police radio sounded like a right snotty bi*ch, especially when Max "meets" BoB. And The Nightrider sounded like a girl, either that or had been castrated.

The DVDs were bought by my Girlfriend who knowing what a nut I am for all the little extras DVDs have. She thought it being a boxed set would be packed with all sorts of extra stuff, like The Lord of the Rings. Sadly it only has the films, no behind the scenes or making of documentaries.

I once had on video the making of Thunderdome by a French film company it was pretty good too (despite it being Thunderdome) the tape is now is VHS heaven so don't ask for a copy.

Good luck in your search for Mad Max on DVD Shape.

As much as I hate Wally world it looks like I'm gonna have to go digging thru the big box. Can never have too many copies, they make great presents too!

Yeah watching MM it on AMC last week was my first time seeing it without the overdubs. I liked it alot better, but I also notice the Nightrider doesn't sound near as mean.HE kinda sounds girlish. LOL

I feel your pain Bart normally I stay clear of those bins, because I hate having to dig through a big pile of crappy movies with the slim chance of finding something good. This must have been fate. I was trying to squeeze down the isle to get by the bin when by cart bumped into it and Beyond Thunder Dome fell out of the bin to the floor. I picked it up and only took about 30 seconds of looking in the bin to have Roadwarrior in my hand. Should of quit right there LOL. I spent another 20 minutes digging and hoping for Mad Max. Finally said screw it and ordered it from amazon today.

I happened to be at Walmart, so I decided to take a look. I looked a bit in the bin by the electronics stuff with no luck. Later, I went over to the one near the checkout lanes. When I walked over to the other side of that one, BT as sitting right on top! I put that in the cart. I proceeded to dig through that bin quite a bit with no luck, and much time wasted. When I went to check out, I found out the price was only $4.88. Unfortunately, I don't have a dvd player yet.

Stopped by Image Wally World (Kingston NY) this weekend found them for $4.88. Sure, it's the crappy cardboard box kind of cover, and there is no picture printed on the disc. But for under $5 am can NOT complain. Looks like the original isn't in this deal but for what I saved on these two I don't mind spending full price on the S.E.
