I'm with you on that; I lke the idea of an intercooled 8-71 blower and a big block; throw some big, fat Mickey Thompson ET Streets on the back and you can have some serious fun!

Not that they aren't capable of generating some very impressive power figures. How's 500 for round numbers? http://carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0401_cobra/ The only reason I didn't include it was because it's a 4.6 rather than a 5.4L.

Most of the replicas with fake blowers use an electric motor but it doesn't vary speed with the engine. It doesn't sound right when the engine revs up..... like in the garage scene. A few guys have rigged an AC clutch with an idler pulley so it can be engaged by the electronic switch and also match the engine's speed. Nitrous has been suggested many times as a way to fool the crowd.


"I ABSOLUTELY HATE long pulley snouts on blowers to get it out over the H2O pump and other bits on FORD BB's...so...is it possible to weld another intake plenum that sits further foward to utilize the shorter pulley's without sacrificing performance or the flow of gas/air? Maybe build a parallelagramed rectangular box under the blower that sits on top of the tunnelram intake? It's all pressurized so there shouldn't be a loss or disruption of flow...right?"


I don't see a problem with the overall function but the box may have to be clearanced for the distributor and you might have to cut into part of the hood scoop.


If you don't like the idea of a remote water pump to gain belt clearance, you could design an idler pulley to be mounted above the water pump and run two belts.

I don't mind overdriving up to 20% but if for some reason I can't get enough boost out of a regular 6-71 I'm going to look into some 2 lobe rotors to increase the case volume.

500HP is chump change Image Some guys swapped cams and put a turbo on one and it put out 800HP.





And if we wanted to make a modern version of the techincal movie version of the engine...

Screw modern. When in doubt, go old school with 855HP and 610 cubic inches.

OK, if we're going this wild, put a built 460 BB in it with twin turbos, then the fake blower with nitrous hooked up to the big red button...what...1400 horse? Is there enough room for plumbing?

Those were both twin turbos and hardly ran on pump gas.

Someone mentioned Grants engine..


Yes he got it running, fuel injection controlled by a Wolf 3 D system, (but it does not at all times seem to be talking to the ignition system in the right language).


It can run fine then for some reason it will have a bad day.


The fuel injection is blow the blower, (you can see the injectors into the manifold) and the air only is compressed with the blower, it makes good power (no idea how much).

The Scott hat sits at the right height for a MAD MAX car, so the engine looks correct.


Blower is constant drive.

As the fuel injection is below the blower and thus indepenent of the blower so if Grant had not run right out of $$$ the alternate air supply might have been investigated, so that the blower could have turned off and on.
