Saw Damnation Alley at the cinema in my teens and loved it... then read the book. The book was good but I preferred the film but as a teenager I suppose I was young and stoopid. Loved that vehicle though except that elastic band joint between the sections, always felt that was a weakness.

George Peppard played a great character still stuck in his job as a soldier while Tanner just quit the saluting farce. No silly one liners from Peppard either such as "I love it when a plan comes together" Jan Micheal Vincent as Tanner stole the film. Always figured he had more potential to play tough guy roles than being lumbered with bloody Airwolf... still it was marginally better but not by much, than 'kin Knightrider! I wonder how he'd have played the role of Max instead of Mel.

For a film shot in the late 70's it wasn't half bad and the budget on the vehicles was well spent instead of just rehashing a tired LandRover or something, they pulled out all the stops and built that gorgeous truck. That wheel setup was amazing, whether it actually did what it showed in the film remains a question.

For me Damnation Alley was the film that triggered the "End of society as we know it" interest in me, searched for and found many books like it over the years. Over in the Fury Road board we were talking about surviving a nuclear war etc. Should the s**t hit the fan I think I'd prefer the Day of the Triffids type scenario rather than the nuclear war one. If you haven't read that book by John Wyndham I highly recommend it for a good read and a "what would I do in a situation like that?" type of thing.

"Goddamned" Biker (but not a Hells Angel)

PS Snake Plisskin was a pussy. Who would wear lyrcra in a world like that and expect to be taken seriously. He'd be laughed out of the 'hood assuming he didn't get gang banged first. How's that for inciting a bit of contraversy? LOL!
Are we living in a land where sex and horror are the new gods?

I liked Jackie Earle Haley with his rock throwing. I love when he cracks that slimeball's coconut.

Aside from the giant mutant animals, I really liked the Damnation Alley book (Original title: Survival Run)

If someone were to do a ne DA Movie, I would hope that they do away with the critters and emphasise the environmental and Human dangers..

I'd love to see a modernized version of the Car described in the book.

Not much like Landmaster at all, but sounded pretty cool..

BATTLETRUCK is still the best non MAD MAX apocalypse movie.

sh*t, anyone seen that Italian piece of sh*t WHEELS OF FIRE? the leather clad 'MAX' character drives a matt black 'strained looking' STANG, with some kind of rocket in the back of it, thats supposed to be the INTERCEPTOR's equivalent of the Supercharger, its awful man.

the ITALIANS were crazy about that sh*t, they spawned hundreds of rip offs in the early 80's

WHEELS OF FIRE. WARRIORS OF THE LOST WORLD (some baddy in this even has a Gauntlett crossbow). THE NEW BARBARIANS. BRONX WARRIORS. HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE (the MAX of this movie cruises round in a f**king Hang glider can you believe ). ENDGAME. 2019: AFTER THE FALL OF NEWYORK. ATLANTIS INTERCEPTORS (this damn thing was made by the CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST director RUGGERO DEODATO, couldn't believe that sh*t). 2020 FREEDOM FIGHTERS. EXTERMINATORS OF THE YEAR 3000.

I tell ya, as a kid i rented it all, i was a MAD MAX fan, and i wanted to see what other people did with my movie.

Italians my make a good HORROR movie, but damn they can f**k up an apocalypse.

DARKSIDE magazine did a pretty cool little feature on these kinds of movies back in '96, can you believe the heading on the cover of the mag was - cringe - WOPS APOCALYPSE .

Image I could no believe this was right on the cover in bold lettering, christ what would they refer to as Blaxploitation? " SPADE CINEMA" ?

...or did i just get myslef booted off the board? Image
