related but in a way totally unrelated,
as far as i know, the German Focke-Wulf 190, later variant, was the pioneer of water injection into the engine manifold to precool the mix and boost the oxygen content of the mix. This trick was adopted postwar by the dragracing USA circuit...,
anyone care to enhance/correct my humble opinion if I'm wrong,

Not sure where it started, but have experianced it.... Had a 71 Jag with water induction! That was a great car, fast, classy, stylish, fast, fast and oh yea fast..... Some old blue hair wreaked it for me....EERrrrrrrrrrrrr.
