MAD MAX TV SHOW ????

Post by T.S. »

well we will probably never see a new mad max movie,so why not a mad max/road warrior televesion series......someone like the sci-fi channel could do this as a weekly show or a mini series....it would have max or a character similiar to max as a patrol officer,or it could take place in the wasteland with a more road warrior like setting....the show could be called FURY ROAD.....anyone else agree that this could work ????

I remember the TV show being talked about in the early 90's, if I remember rightly Bill Campbell who played The Rocketeer was being put forward to play Max

Yeah i got a couple of Magazine clippings from 99' regarding the proposed TV show.

was gonna be mainly based on ROAD WARRIOR. - one article i have even went so far as to say, they already had listed Merchandising ideas, like Figures, Lunchboxes etc. for the show.

A Mad Max lunchbox! How cool would that be. I remember seeing Road Warrior tee shirts in K-mart when MM2 was hot. Didn't get one though, I wasn't really into buying film merchandise then, damn me to hell.

There was talk of a Mad Max TV Show in the early 80's, after RW was released. After contract talks, and feasibility studies, the premise of the show was altered, and the pilot was filmed as "Knight Rider." No, this is not a joke.

He's telling the absolute truth. I read it on this one website. This one actor (never heard of him) was set to play Max but he got into a bike or car accident and couldn't do it so the project was altered, the name was changed and Knight Rider was made. Like Kirbydog said, this story is no joke--but, the Knight Rider series IS. And David Hasselhoff?? An even bigger joke. And the talking car?? Give me a sledge hammer. But seriously, Hollywood could never pull off a Mad Max series- no way. They have funded tonnes of immitators that all failed miserably. The only okay immitator I saw that had some sort of comparable merit was Waterworld-- the seaman idea for Costner killed it though-- but the film still had some fantastic scenes.

Very interesting.

My understanding is that the Australian actor Jon (Sonny) Blake was set to play max in the TV show until he had an horrific car accident on the way home from shooting 'The Lighthorsemen' in South Australia.

He has been in a coma ever since. When his insurance case went to court he was awarded a substantial payout based partly on the extent of his injuries and partly on the premise that he had the talent and oportunity 'to be the next Mel Gibson' ... the upcoming TV series was mentioned in the arguement put in court.

It's the next bit I don't get as Kennedy Miller were to produce the TV show ... so does the web article say that the US studio developed and produced a show with a similar feel or that it was the same project rejigged and adapted?

Most intriguing.

Jon Blake was also in a couple of other Oz car films Freedom where he tools about in a stolen 930 Porsche and Running from the Guns where he flees the mob in an AC Cobra

Hey XA.

You are right on the money again. As you know I am a fan of the "Freedom" movie, Jon Blakes accident was a sad loss to the industry. I would have loved to see how far he would have gone.

I did catch (my pick to play MAX if they must use another actor) Matt Day playing Dr Watson in an english film not sure how old.. it was on the TV last week.

Do you know anything of this?

best regards.

Gordon.
