What does Mad Max mean to you?

Post by BubbaZee »

When you hear "Mad Max" what do you think of.

Do you think of a) Mel Gibson

b) Mad Max the whole film

c) Mad Max 2

d) Thunderdrone

e) Mad Max 1+ 2 together

or f) All 3 movies together

For me Mad Max instantly conjures up the whole of 1+2 together, it's more than just a character. What about you?

Memories of my youth....... Cr@p that sounded fluffy..

I think of MM (one) mostly, however it is so closely followed by intertwined thoughts from RW it's hard to tell which came first in thought.... Don't really think of BTD as a whole just some of the more MM'ish images. MM to me is more than a movie, more than a genre, more than an experience..... It's like a place you've come to know, .... Hell this is harder than I thought!...... "Holy Cr@P MAN!,, HELL IT'S A MOVIE, I THINK ABOUT THE MOVIE!!!! NOW LEAVE ME ALOne.. ....siGh...whimPEr....snifff.." I'm sorry it's just..just every thing and nothing to me... it's the day... the night.. It's the grog of life itself..... ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz.

The first image I get is Max (from MM1), then it turns into a general vision of the post-apocalyptic world he inhabits--wild characters, cars chasing, lawlessness, destruction. So I suppose for me, the term "Mad Max" inspires more than just thoughts of the character or movies, but of a whole environment and world.

I can relate PULSE, i know we all think we're the number 1 fans. you know, you sit and read the Forum, thinking, 'man, theres noway they could ever love these movies as much as me, NO WAY", and thats how i always feel.

I really cannot put into words the way i feel in particular about MAD MAX 2, thats MY movie - was like 5 or 6 when i first saw it, it was the first of the series i saw, and its so sentimental its beyond words - it was me and my dads 'bonding' movie, and i watch it with my boys too. (Won't put on the original MAD MAX for 'em yet, just seems a little to ... um, 'real', disturbing for 5 and 7 year olds, the again i saw it at that age, so i dunno)...

my first thought was and always will be BUBBA ZANETTI.

the first time I saw MM1 he gave me bad dreams.

MM2 made me want to move to the desert and become a savage (but I refuse to eat dog food). Seriously tho: I came oh-so-close to running away to Australia when I was 17 because of this movie.

When I think of Mad Max I think of how great action movies were once made but aren't anymore. Miller and Byron brought a style and flow that was only ever exceeded by the Road Warrior itself. I remember seeing Mad Max when I was REAL young, too young to appreciate it ( by the way when I was younger I remember seeing that deleted scene where he sawed off the shotgun) but then I grew to appreciate it. Now every action movie I see with a chase scene in it I compare it to Mad Max. They never compare. When I first watched the Road Warrior I was floored! Seeing those chase scenes was amazing. I love it how you're right in the middle of it all. Even though I was sitting on my couch watching it it felt like I was hanging out a car window going 100mph! You know that feeling in your gut like "oh geez anything can happen". I don't get the feeling much anymore because I've watched the MM movies a million times, but I never forget it. Nowadays, it sucks. Every damn chase scene is done with blue screen or CGI and it's so obvious. That's why I wish Fury Road gets made because the movie industry needs a good kick in the ass so they can turn around and look back and see what good movies really were. Besides I'm tired of everyone thinking they can be Fast & Furious and put body kids and spoilers on their nissans or hondas. Hopefully Georgie-boy pulls through and the fourth film gets made. Everyone here knows if it happens he'll show these hollywood p*ssies how to film a REAL chase scene with some REAL cars. You guys agree?

when i was a kid, and mum was at work, dad used to look after me on his days off, and i'd have baked Beans for lunch, but i used to eat them cold and straight out of the can - cause i wanted it to be Dog Food, Hell i even gulped that first spoon full, with my eyes closed, like MAX. dad never said anything, but i remember him smirking... he knew.

For me Mad Max is number 1 and especially 2 - I thought Thunderdome was pretty cool as well, but Mad Max 2 is my favorite movie of all time. I firt saw it aged 10 (I'm 28 now)when I was living in Darwin. I must've watched that movie 50 times. The version I watched (recorded from TV) way back then was the 'TV edit' version which had some slightly different words and scenes. I only saw the unedited version a couple of years ago - seeing a few new scenes was a big thrill. I even read all 3 novels at age 11. I simply wanted to be Max. I used to re-enact the whole movie with my 'Hot Wheels' and 'Matchbox' cars - even had a yellow school bus for the gate!! Also, my cousin and I were the same age and we used to say Papagallo's quote "there's always a way" when we were trying to climb onto a roof or something. Mad Max 1 and 2 have a rawness that I just don't experience when watchng the vast majority of movies these days. Mad Max is pure movie genious - has that x-factor. Mad Max 2 especially will always occupy a special place in my heart.
