Mad Max 1 DVD, Why do we get ripped off!

Post by max_rockatansky »

Greetings, yesterday i just got my copy of the US release of Mad Max1 special edition, i have had the region 4 edition for ages just wanted to see those two docos which we in Australia didn't get, i must say i am very annoyed that we didn't get any of those docos, it doesn't make any sense why we didn't get the same, not even audio commentary, ripped off! the only thing i can see that we have and the US didn't get is the DTS soundtrack, is anyone else annoyed at this?

Nice name there MAX Image

I baught the REGION 1, in early 2002, and though it did have pretty weak Doco's and sh*t, i got it mainly for the unbelievable transfer, since i'd just had an old 20 year old Ex rental, to watch, plus the WIDESCREEN was awesome, i'd always wanted to see it like that, though anyone noticed how NTSC transfers arn't as good as PAL? - the reds are too red, and 'smeared' kinda.

But my guess is, that REGION 1, was just to shut the yanks up and get 'em out of the way, so WE can get the ULTIMATE EDITION - proper Doco's, DELETED's, COMMENTARY, with GIBSON, and MILLER...

BRASHER - the commentary was with - JON DOWDING (production designer) DAVID EGGBY (director of photography) CHRIS MURRAY (stunts) and some supposed MAD MAX Authoritarian TIM RIDGE, but he told us f**k all we didn't already know...

I'd like to think we would get some sort of ultimate edition, would lap it up in a second, but i dont like the chances of that happening, it may have been used to shut up the Americans who knows, but it just seems that we always get the "watered down" version of any DVD release of a movie, but Mad Max is particulary painful because it was made in my home town, maybe i'm just patriotic.

I now have three versions of the first movie. The first one I bought in the '80s

for $65!!!!!!!. The second version was taped off cable. Slight differences between

the two. Most notable is when Max is standing on the bridge watching Toecutter

& Bubba Zanetti ride underneath him. Bubba Zanetti is slightly cropped off on

one version, as if the film was "squeezed" to fit on the screen. Also, just after

Max runs through the bikers , they show him checking his mirror for the results.

Depending on which version I'm watching, the blower is semi-visible. In the

Special Edition version the whole blower is visible. (Yes, I know! Widescreen!

but this is the first time I seen the full picture!). One more thing, I seen on TV

last month the movie in Full Screen with their original voices. Unknown if this

is available on the Special Edition as I haven't checked yet. I agree, the docu's

aren't much. No home movies of the chase scenes?!!!!

"The Toecutter! He knows who I am"! ( was my next choice but I see

Rockatansky already used! So.......)

Remember him when you look up

Tell me about it BUBBA, i've got a number of alternate copies of MAD MAX 1 and 2, i got various AUSSIE versions, since we've gotten it released and re released about 5 times in the last 10 years, now we've lost the original AUSSIE UNCUT version, now when they release it on DVD or SELL THRU, they give us this watered down US. ROAD WARRIOR version, with all the cuts in it.

I've even baught copies from other countries like the UK. and sh*t, and even their getting this US. ROAD WARRIOR, not MAD MAX 2 version now.
