MAD MAX Dubbing

Post by Sprog »

Hi guys

Im new to this web site though I've been a huge Mad Max fan from the beginning, but I felt I had to register to voice a complaint. I'm currently watching Mad Max the US dubbed version and I have to say they have absolutely ruined it.

This movie has to be seen and heard the way it was originally made, we have to watch their movies undubbed so why cant they watch ours that way. We are sitting here laughing at a classic movie because the american voices are crap.

Anyway if im not the first to complain about this im sorry. If I am then I suggest to all you Americans watch the MAD MAX movies in the original Australian format and really enjoy the movies.

I totally agree, so much so, that I sought out a PAL/NTSC converter YEARS ago, and got the original dialog version, but NOW everyone can get Mad Max SE DVD and her the way it truly is. I have also noticed that, although I have understood that MM2/The Road Warrior was NOT overdubbed, and untill recently did not have any thoughts otherwise...well if you have the MM2 DVD (O.K mine is the Road Warrior DVD) check out the "Trailer"... Some dialog and scene snippets I have not seen before, and CHECLK OUT HUMUNGUS's VOICE!!! Thant is NOT the voice used int the US theatrical,VHS or DVD versions...

ANYONE????

The day after: Sorry if my original email sounded like an attack on the US, it definately wasnt meant to sound like that, though even as I read my post I can see it may sound that way. I was just caught up in the moment of having to listen to some really bad voices dubbed on the movie.

Perhaps it was a result of anxiety :-)

Heya Sprog, I'm sure no one was really offended. I have to agree that the US dubbed version is one that should be filed away forever but then again I often use it to show people the difference from the original. Until I had knowledge of the original version, the 'dubbed' version was my 'holy grail'.

I think what most peple are trying to say when this topic arises is that they can't understand why a dubbed version was really needed... I mean they don't make a dubbed version of 'Water Rats', Bootmen, Muriels Wedding and even the "wiggles" which my 3 year old can understand pefectly....if anything I enjoy hearing my son refer to his friends as 'mates' !!! (it's better then him saying "EH" every 2 minutes)

I imagine some Moron Studio Exec here in the States had a hard time understanding the dialog throught the accents & Slang & decided that nobody else would be able to understand it either.

And in his defense, the Aussie accent wasn't heard much on US TV and movies, so the people didn't have much exposure to it.

In today's world of International communication at a Keystroke and Cable TV (and Steve Irwin)Image people are much more used to hearing various accents and can understand far better than they could in the 1970's

MFP1,

The trailer i think you're talking about is probably the MM2 version pre-sound production one, it also has the music from MM1, the Humungus does sound different and you can also here a clear comment from Curmudgen, something about not seeing driving like that in a long time, which i don't think is prominent in the finished version, also when Wez shouts "You can run but you can't hide, it's in a stronger Australian accent.

Greetings. Yeah, sure, beat up on us Yanks...by a POME and a Canuk...eh?!...no lessImage. Just go out, buy the Special Edition, the old MM2 VHS, or copy the whole trilogy, and there will be an end to the horror. The Night Rider sounds like a total wuss in the original Aussie dub. The US voice gives him some kihones. Same way with Bubba. The rest I like the original.

"Oh crikey! She'a a real beaut! Look at them pearlies...got to watch me self with this sheila. She's wedged in there tighter than a snake in a drainpipe...madder than a cut snake too I reckon. One bite and...WHACK! Off with me groggies...then where'd I be with the sheilas...eh, eh 'ate?!" Gotta quit watching it......................lol.

Hey, speaking of dubbing, on the US (crap) version, Max says to May "Call Ziggy" but on the original version Max says "Call The Dark One". What gives? I thought Max was The Dark One. Can anyone help me out here?

I'll see you on the road!

Noooo! 'The Dark One' is Max's nonexistant partner who was cut from the orginal script. Max is 'Rockatansky', the other name on the side of his (yellow) car.

About dubbing... Gah, everyone knows the original voices are better. I thought nightrider sounded stoopid on the US version and Max was so totally different with his new voice (the different slants and subtleties of his US voice make his character out to be a nutcase from the outset). I had the original sent over to me by a mate of mine in Aus because it was impossible to get.
