RW Special Edition DVD?

Post by Havoc »

Hey, there?

How's it going, amigos?

Does anyone know if Warner Brothers plans to release a Special Edition version of "The Road Warrior"...? If you ask me, we are long overdue! I figured we would see it before "Fury Road" was released, but since that film's fate is up in the air, it may not be a done deal.

Thanks,

Aloha,

Johnny B.

Actually, it has been greatly rumoured that there'll be a SPECIAL EDITION for each Mad Max movie coming out in July. Here you go.

There's definitely a Road Warrior Special Edition DVD coming out sometime this year. The original date I was given when they were collecting material has already passed though, and I haven't been advised of a new date. Note that the MGM DVD was 6 to 12 months later than originally expected also, so this isn't exactly uncommon - things can get delayed for any number of reasons.

When I get official notice I will definitely post something to the main page of the site. I've held off posting so far because although I know it's happening, it seems a bit pointless until I know the dates, see the exact feature list, and so on. I've got an idea of what material has been collected, but (as with the MGM DVD) not everything may make the final cut - and they've possibly (hopefully!) come up with additional material that I don't know about. Keep your eyes on the various DVD rumour sites around, they'll be bound to score the full info before I do.

As for Thunderdome, I've heard absolutely nothing in that regard. This would seem to be the easiest disc to do as well, with the existing "making of" documentary which is already quite extensive. I'd love to see a DVD which included that, the video clips, and some of the other interviews done at the time. We can only hope they get around to doing this eventually. As for the original Mad Max, I've heard nothing there either, and can't really see that there would be a need to release another disc at this point on top of what MGM has already done.

I know that certainly present day interviews with a variety of the cast / crew were done, and Vernon Wells has mentioned that himself at some of his more recent appearances. There was also an intention to try and get a commentary track done for the disc, but whether they achieved that, and who they would have gotten involved, I don't know. Like I said, that's been my reason for not posting anything earlier - I know some of what was set out to be done, but (like the MGM DVD before it) there are bound to be things that don't make it for whatever reason, and I don't want to get anyone's hopes up on specific items until I see a confirmed feature list.

Thanks, Peter!

You have piqued my curiousity: what DID not make it onto the recent MAD MAX DVD....?? I wonder if this was being saved for a possible Special Edition...?
