Hey Bronze

Given that the car is black with black accents a black interior riding on black rims with black tyres ... maybe its a black on black on black on black on black ...

... just stiring the same pot out inthe Thunderbox ... oh yeah the road is black so maybe it's a ...

To be semi-serious for a moment I think the term Pursuit Special comes from the radio announcement during the Nighrider chase where the HQ is refered to as a stolen Pursuit Special.

I agree with you Bronze ... any way you slice it it's an awesome car ... the duck's guts in fact.

maybe its a black on black on black and tan on black on black ...Image

(I am now firmly convinced that the Silly Stick did in fact follow me here from that other website..)

A while back I coined the term Intercept Special, but it doesn't seem to've caught on.

"Black on Black" was in the script, wasn't it? Certainly makes more sense than "Lone Wolf Vehicle"

BTW, Nightrider's stolen car had a tan interior, didn't it?

Foxtrot, I agree with you... I have always kind-of thought the "BoB" would have been an Interceptor Special, but it was the only one ever built. So it was referred to as THE Interceptor, as opposed to an Interceptor. The MFP's fleet was aging, and vehicles were not being replaced. The BoB was cobbled together using a Pursuit Special as a base, and was the last "new" vehicle to join the MFP before the total breakdown of society, hence: "The last of the V/8 Interceptors"

One of the biggest reasons I don't agree with the 1st movie being set on 1999-2000.

I think that the cars we see are mostly NEW(ish).

With the economy collapsing, the vehicle manufacturers would be less able to design & retool to build new model cars.

So instead of the Falcon-as-we-know-it changing when it did in OUR world, the designs remained laregly unchanged.

IE, the Black was perhaps a brand new year model.

A 1982(?) Falcon XB.. XC?... XD???

Not sure if GORDON baught this up, i read his post pretty carefully, and didn't see it. But i remember growing up, around maybe 87 to 90, the FALCON XD. was one of thr most widely used 'public' vehicles, here in AUSTRALIA, they were used as both TAXI's and Cop cars. - I remember when my dad baught one in 93' it was an EX copcar.

I think the main reason they call it a Pursuit Special in the film is because the yellow car already had the 'interceptor' name....it's just a way to differentiate between the 2 cars. The name does grab attention though.. when i had the 5.7 INTERCEPTOR badges on my cop car, it was taken as just that but when I changed it a couple of years later to PURSUIT SPECIAL I was constantly asked what I did to the car...."what size engine is in there now?" and "is that red button on the shifter for nitrous?" It's amazing how many kids backed down from a race when they saw that 'fake switch'....enough rambling for now.

BTW, I am aware that there really was an "XD" in our world.

My theory is that in Max's world, the next Falcon "Interceptor" produced (On the same basic chassis) might have been dubbed XD.

Just Clarifying. Image

I think the mechanic in mad max 2 knew Max was a bronze....in fact i would say a few of the compound dwellers would ve known he was driving an interceptor.......The warrior woman calls him mercenary trash....she knew Max was a bronze......
