TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT
The PATRIOT ACT was just the begining. Now happining in the U.S. State of Arizona is a push for a law that lets the local, Federal, and state police ENTER and SEARCH you home without prior notice OR a search warrant. (i.e the Cold War KGB ). 9/11/01 was just the catalyst for many steps the U.S. Government wants to take to insure the American public stays afraid, in thier homes, and gun free.
Germany did this very thing in the early 1930's and we all know the result.

March Hare: I may be mistaken, but I thought that was already on the books through one of the 'Patriot' acts, and that afterward, they didn't even have to inform you they were there (if you weren't there when they came in). I agree with you, this stuff is scary. Not long after 9/11 and the early intrusions on privacy began, I talked to an older friend of mine who had been in the military in the late'50's. He said "I don't care what rights they take away as long as they keep us safe." I couldn't believe my ears. And he no doubt considers himself a true blue Amurrican.
And for anyone scoffing at the '1930's Germany' comparison; of course it's not going to be Nazi Germany overnight. But it's the baby steps toward it we have to be vigilant about.

Redd, I believe the one your thinking about is the "loophole" the federal government ( F.B.I. ) initiated to make it possible to wire tap your phone line and computer feed without a search ( tap )warrant. Believe it or not one of the biggest proponets of this new "loophole" is no other than E-BAY. I've been told that they will NOT hesitate to disclose ANY and ALL info to the feds. A seller of police badges and memorabilla on e-bay had his house ransacked by the feds with no prior notice or warning.

Thanks for the clarification, Hare. I've never had the circumstance to use E-Bay, and now, I don't think I ever will.
Now get ready for Patriot Act III, which will require national ID cards, and the implantation of gps chips in all newborns...(just kidding--for now)

Yeah the whole E-bay thing is the real deal to. One of my co-workers was doing the whole police badge/memorabilla thing also and is good friends with the guy that was raided. After the incident my co-worker dropped his business, discontinued both his E-bay and internet accounts and sold his P.C.
At work we sit around joking about how George Bush Jr. will be the last publicly elected President if he goes to a second term because after that we'll have a Dictatorship and not a Democracy. You can almost hear the sound of Jackboots marching down Pennsylvania Ave.
The GPS chip ( or some equivalent ) may sound far off but the astronomical spike in identity theft worldwide has that technology right around the corner. (i.e Bar code tattoos,& optical scans for Credit card purchases). Remember in "Minority Report" they were selling eyeballs on the black market and they were arresting people for crimes that they WERE GOING to commit in the future. Sound crazy but it gives plenty of food for thought.

You know, the Germany of the 1930s had an Office of Homeland Security just like we here in the States do now. Theirs was called the Gestapo.

Since when does law enforcement ask to search a home? With the order from a Judge, the police force can enter a home at anytime. This has been a powerful option for years.
Impending technology has me concerned. RFID. Radio Frequency Identification. This is supposed to be a merchanising tool for simplifying the logistics, marketing, inventory control and purchasing of ALL items. And here is the problem. Lets say I buy a shirt with RFID, and I pay with a credit card. Now a connection is made between the shirt and my personal information. Can tracking my person be far behind?
The advent of the Smart Card is next. Recorded in the new all purpose card is access to credit history, medical records, SAT scores, marital status, and a new cashless system of payment. If you have read Revelations, you understand the implications. Most major retailers are planning a RFID launch date to go live in 2005. This is a big initiative lead by the world giant...WALMART.

Ankle: I think Hare was referring to the part about no warrants nor even probable cause being needed to tap you/search your home (since if the authorities don't need a warrant, they don't need to present probable cause to a judge for a search). Of course, if they don't find anything, you might have grounds for legal action, but there'd probably be some fine print prohibiting that.
