"The horror! The horror!"
By the way- the van at the top is named "Road Warrior". It's not clear in that picture, but it is painted on the side.

"Road Warrior".......van?
Anyone ever read a book by John Jakes titled 'On Wheels' ? The premise is that in the future (within the next 50 years) the highway system would be so big that there would be a sizeable subculture that lives all of it's life traveling. So much so, that they have a complete society (work/family/school/entertainment/everything) taking place within huge vehicles at speed. They never stop. In fact, it's considered humiliating to come to a complete halt.
Anyway, the main character is young and has a rebellious streak. He and his small group of friends have old gas powered vans that they drive late at night to flaunt their rebellious ways. Since internal combustion engines are outlawed (all powerplants are something other than fossil fuel burners) this is a rather risky thing to do. Anyway, the vans are called 'mothers'.
Not a bad book, really. Just watch out for the Johnny Hardchargers out there....
