Bubba, what about the Renault 5 GT Turbo? (the mark 1) that was one of the meanest Group B rally cars ever produced, there's a story that Renault brought one to Ireland to let potential customers test drive it, but it was deemed too wide and too powerful for Irish roads ..mind you they said the same about the Subaru Impreza WRC and now there's more in Ireland than any other country in the world.

No one's mentioned the BMW M3, not a muscle car but an awesome machine, it's nicknamed the 'German Mustang' ...I love 'em, my earliest motor sport experience as a kid was going see the Circuit of Ireland, standing in a muddy field, barely being able to see over a hedge and seeing this black car with gold wheels flash past through the branches.[/font]

I agree these are speed demons but I don't think they're muscle cars. if I understand the term correctly. ???

I have been on the autobahn once before and speed comes in handy (like a beamer).

Would a Barracuda be considered a Musclecar?

Mine cornered like it was on rails..

(Though I couldn't get the same level out of it that I did in my Javelin..)

Generally speaking, the term is a matter of opinion.

Most of the Car-Guys I know would become agitated at anything "Imported" being called a Musclecar.

(Even though certain Aussie Fords & Holdens would pass all of their requirements)

My Definition: Musclecar = 60's to Early '70s V-8 Powered two door cars intended to go fast..

If it don't have a V-8 & goes fast (Good on ye, mate) and/or only has two seats, It's a "Sportscar".

Obviously there are a great many exceptions, right?

(I still would not class the 'Vette as a Musclecar any more than I would a Ferrari)

Aye I know 'H7 KAL' very well, my Da was co-driving on the Galway Rally in 1992 when McKinstry gave the Scooby it's first run out. and a mate and I did last years Mayo stages in her!.

His first time driving a Group A car and mine co-driving in one ..kept losing my place in the notes cause the corners where coming quicker than I could call them out!

we sold the Focus last week (and made a profit) so looks like we'll not be rallying this year, we couldn't get the sponsorship, might do the odd one rally though we'll see.

I'll still be @ the Circuit marshalling and I'm marshalling @ Bishopscourt on March 15th.

if you're imterested our (Mid Antrim MC) are having a 'closed' track day Bishopscourt soon.

Co-driving and any aspirations to co-drive are knocked on the head for the foreseable future cause I'm packin my job in and going back to Uni.

If you fellow compatriates want to mention hot hatches, then what about the MG Maestro Turbo? http://www.maestro.org.uk

Personally, I have a Maestro van and I am hoping to fit something a bit bigger power wise!

How about a red paint job and some spaceship murals on the side? Hmm!

Well, the Barracuda was a product of a mix of the pony car wars (Mustang/Cougar, Camaro/Firebird, Barracuda/Challenger, AMX/Javelin) and the, then popular TransAm racing series (much like the current V-8 Supercar racing in Australia). All of the pony cars benefited from that racing experience with better suspensions, but they tended to have small displacement motors (around 300 ci) because of the T-A rules. Technically, none of the TA type cars are true musclecars. The engines just aren't big enough. But, a Hemi 'Cuda on the other hand, is most definitely a musclecar.

If it came from the factory almost ready for drag racing, it is probably a musclecar. The big engines were just no good for (and not allowed) for Trans-Am racing. The small block Corvettes were good for T-A or road racing, but the big blocks were pure musclecar. There is no way the 427 vettes were set up for anything but being brutal on the drag strip.

Personally, I rather have a car that does many things well than a car that does one thing exceptionally well. That way, I can drive it more often......know what I mean?
