Magic in Max's world

I wouldn't say that magic per se would exist in max's world. It's too similar to our own. I would however, suggest that certain people would end up believing in and looking for signs of magic. For example, if (as may happen in MM4) the world degenerates to a more medieval type of affair, someone may have a rune covered sword. Now the runes themselves would hold no power, except in the mind of the opponent and thus give the wielder a psychological advantage over the frightened and thus mistake prone enemy. To an observer, it would seem that the rune covered sword is magical and enables the owner to fight in a better way.

I doubt that the type of magic where one could summon demons and see into the murky depths of a dungeon is acceptable in this world, but some sort of "incidental" magic or even someone using the apperance of magic to gain power would most certainly be a plausable tangent to explore.

Just my tuppence worth for ya.

Uncle,

Roadman and camchain had excellent theories that are very true.

As for actual magic in the world of Max I would say absolutely not. As mentioned above, the films are realistic. If the apocalypse happened tomorrow, we wouldn't suddenly have witches and wizards. The films are based in reality. They are science fiction films because they take place in the future and deal with something that hasn't happened yet...the apocalypse.

Maxians,

I'm really enjoying this great discussion. I can only say "thanks" to all of you from the bottom of my heart. Goin' to read all the comments again, in search of a definitive answer. Whoa!

My plans: I'm planning to co-write, with Randy ( and he doesn't still know it!) an EXTENDED FILE for Ironbar Bassey, trying to solve the dilemma of his undeniable powers. You can't really say that there are NO mutants or slightly-enhanced humans in the Mad Max World, since Humungus, Blaster and Wez showed you the opposite. I mean, I never saw a man jumping high in the air through the sole force of his human legs, from a point to another, just in order to attack a man.

I was just wondering if IRONBAR was as much a deviant as Wez, Humungus or Blaster (mmmm Max?) or a mystical-enhanced human. I was wondering if the mask was the real source of his invincibility, since the clothes seemed as much indistructible as his body (the fireball explosion)... and keep in mind that, in the supposed final minute of his life, he managed to gently grab the mask as to say: "My power is here. MAYBE I'll not die. Just, I have to manage to pull my as* out of this wreckage... and I could make it... otherwise I will die..."

What do you think about it?

I dunno - UNC. to me you've always been too damn spiritual man.

All the poetry and looking for stuff in the 'MAX's thats not really there. I mean hey, its cool and all that ya find more than is on the screen, hell we all do it. Christ look at the crap i've come up with over the months... anyone member - MAX's PILLOW?

but as for mysticism and magic and sh*t, it don't belong in the MAX world. Not in the first two anyway. They're to dirty and primal. The third one maybe, but only when it comes to the 'Crack kids" no one else though.

They're very simple tales of the Lonesome hero, battling the savage baddies.

Good versus Evil. simple as that.

Have to agree with the rock on that I can see the mystical side in BTD, I never put it down to that though. For me its more about tribalism and the fight for survival and superiority!!!

Hey guys,

I love your opinions. However, I wasn't even talking about "spiritualism" in Max's world... I was expressely referring to "magic" ---- there's a fine line between the two.

Anyway, you almost convinced me. Probably, all the great things people can do in Max's world are truly the result of years of struggling. This could apply to Max, Ironbar Bassey, Mighty Wez, The Humungus and Blaster too. They showed the terrific physical potential inside any human being. Right? (anyway, anyone seems to be much stronger in Max's world... especially in 2 and 3 where living was a fight, of course...)

Are you telling me this? Maybe, as Ankle suggested, the mask was just a gimmick - Ironbar's strenght and invincibility came from the inside, because he refused to die in order to achieve his target. I could say the same for Wez, Humungus, Blaster and... Max.
