I wonder if Max made is sawed-off, pistol-grip himself. Hr seems the type that would. Teh holster looks homemade. Perhaps he did, no one else had one.

The 12 guage shotgun shell very VERY common..

Likely a man woud keep EVERY bullet/shell he came across. If it didn't fit his own weapon, he could trade it for virtually anything else.

In the Thunderdome novel, the Waterseller quotes Max a price for a drink in several different "currencies"... Bullets, Smokes & Joints.Image

In my line of work, we often find ammunition in the cars we get.

By far, the three most common are 12 guage shells, .22 caliber Long Rifle and 9 millimeter handgun.

When these moves were made, the 9mms were not very common..

here in australia you'll find 12 gauge. shells anywhere, them and 22's in fact when i moved into my house 3 years ago, there were shotgun shells just sitting around in my back carport, live and dead. then again there was also fishing tackle scattered about the place, the previous tenant was obviously a hunter.

Don't think it is a Colt Python, but (like it is) gonna get out the vid and sit in front of the telly again. Python was available in 4, 6 or 8 inch versions, all .357 magnums. Nice popgun.

yeah i think HUMUNGUS's is a little too small, just looks like a standard 357 SMITH AND WESSON to be.

OK, you did your homework Rock. Image I really gotta watch that flik again. With that scope he could have easily picked off Max instead of the radiator, Lord Humungus must have been a sportsman, and that would have been to easy.

I feel it is safe to say that the pistol Humungous used was probably a Colt Python, or maybe a S&W... or a Ruger..... or maybe a Taurus....

And shotguns, especially 12 guages, are very popular and deadly. Have you ever noticed that they are the weapon of choice for fighting, mutants, undead, aliens, and human scum?

i have noticed that , from THEY LIVE, to ALIENS. i guess cause point blank they kick arse, and from a distance the spread is good.

I don't know why i never thoght of this by now, but this morning i put on MAX 2 and pused and used the ZOOM when HUMUNGUS took the gun out of its box, the first shot when he takes out max's radiator , you can't see sh*t, but just before the tanker battle and he loads it you can zoom in then and see on the side SMITH AND WESSON, at first i wasn't too sure, i mean the placing of the words was correct, then i got out an AMERICAN HANDGUNNER mag, compared it to a 'smith in there, and yep. thats just your standard 44 mag s&w. probably chose that because it was recognisable from DIRTY HARRY, i mean they wanted a powerful, gun for the mighty HUMUNGUS, they couldn't have a shotty, cause max has that, so next step, a bigarse pistol, if it was made today, it would be a DESERT EAGLE cause their magnum's and they look mean as sh*t. MILLER knew whoever saw DIRTY HARRY would instantly recognise that gun as being "the most powerful handgun in the world", and it would make sense that a hulk would own it.

oh yeah and the scope isn't factory, you can see where its screwed on.
