Real world location

Post by accstuff »

I was looking at the maps for both Fury Road and in the video game. If you overlay the location of Gastown, it adds further evidence that the location is on the western coast of Australia near Rockingham. The game starts in what was once the ocean bed, this is most likely the Indian Ocean. You head north to Gastown which is most likely the BP Kwinana Refinery. This is where the game map ends and the movie map begins. The Citadel is northwest of Gastown and they headed east, which that would have been put the Green place in what is now the Mundaring State Forest. There is a small island that could be the location of the Citadel in about the right location on the map, Carnac Island Nature Reserve. With the water gone, it would appear as the Citadel appeared and would account for the large amount of green on top of it.

I read somewhere that there were clues in the game as to the real world location, they were leaving it up to the players to figure them out.

AFAIK, the clue in the game as to where the game takes place was the light shining into one of the locations and it was in the shape of Australia. Otherwise the game's world was very much modelled after America.

I'd like to see those maps overlaid with actual locations, could you sort that out for evidence?

Ok, I feel stupid. I did not take into account that north in Australia is not the same as north in the US.

I have to invert all the maps. This will take a little bit

...what? North is universal. Our North in Australia is the same as your North. Our maps are not inverted

And Fury Road is not based on any specific real-world location. It's just ambiguously "the outback". Also, the game map is not related to the film, it's a reimagined environment.

Here is the map for Fury Road. Its meant to be located way out in the outback and not near the coast like in the game.

That would've thrown a wrench in all of the theories :)
