Spoiler (The Interceptor)
Spoiler (The Interceptor)
Just saw the film. It was great, though I had a hard time relating this Max to Mel's Max, as that was the one I grew up with. However, the real statement I thought was being made that got me mad was what George did with the Interceptor (Or pursuit special for us purists) When Max starts her up in the beginning and I saw about 1 second extra of the blower reaching its full speed, I kicked the seat in front of me with excitement. Then the first chase started. Now after seeing the trailers I knew the car was going to go south, but when I saw the scene play out exactly as it was shown in the trailer, I got pissed off. This was such a wasted opportunity, I was hoping to see a chase scene similar to that of the one in Mad Max 2, but no. Then a glimmer of hope, the car gets rebuild. The drivers of Imorton Joe gets killed and the Interceptor swerves off and it looks like the car will be alright for maybe Max to go and get it back as he mentions that it is his car every time he sees it. But then the biggest heart breaker. The interceptor comes and we see it get destroyed in a very slow and painful death being crushed between two trucks (at least in Mad Max 2 the death was quick) It just feels as though George Miller really drew out the whole idea of telling people to "let go" of the Interceptor as it were and made the car suffer due to its popularity. No other vehicle in this film was shown to be demolished in such detail and was lingered upon. I so wanted to see Max drive off in it at the end. But still, a great comeback and a great film. I'm going to go watch it again.
Re: Spoiler (The Interceptor)
I'm just guessing, but hopefully we'll see it again in the sequel. Max in the Interceptor is just such an integral part of Mad Max iconography and lore, I cant believe they'd just drop it. It's like batman not having the bat mobile, Han without the falcon... It would kinda make sense that's why he leaves at the end of FR once the wives are safe, maybe he's setting off to retrieve "his" property, maybe he'll also find a dog along the way...

Re: Spoiler (The Interceptor)
To be honest, I think the Interceptor did well in Fury Road, after it was rebuilt that is. The first 'chase' sure is a bit anticlimatic, but it's probably just George trying to hammer in the point he was trying to make in Road Warrior. Apart from doing its job well after the rebuild, and probably getting more screentime than in RW, I also actually like that it goes down as spectacularly as it does. It sure doesn't deserve to be killed offscreen or get some puny 'normal' death. Sure, it is an awesoem car, and I still want one, but it was never ment to be the main character, unlike General Lee.
Also, the Batmobile has been destroyed quite a few times , and Han did lose his Falcon .
BTW, I think the way the mechanic in RW calls the BoB 'the last V8 interceptor'could not possibly mean he knows it is the exact last car in existence, unless he worked with MFP inventory, which again means he knew very well who Max was, and that he stole the car. He probably says it in the same way we say the E34 was the 'last straight-6 M5', and the 993 was 'the last aircooled Porsche'. It was basically the last series of V8 interceptors before production was stopped.
And in the opening chase in MM1 they call the car the Nightrider stole 'one of the V8's - Pursuit special' , indicating there would be more of them. Possibly one or more for each district. Max should be able to find another if the fans scream loudly enough XD

Re: Spoiler (The Interceptor)
Someone commented on a youtube video I posted on Max seeking vengeance, stated that the Interceptor as iconic as it is represented Max's darker, dare I say it Madder side. He acquires it once he looses his wife and son and goes on a killing spree. By Mad Max 2, the Car is beaten up much like Max is. Max is still self centered after he delivers the truck and decides to abandon Papagallo and his people when they needed him the most. Once the Interceptor is destroyed does Max decide to help the escaping victims. I think the commentor on that clip was on to something. In Fury Road we see a similar pattern, where we first see Max in a feral state and his journey of redemption only begins once he is separated from the damaged Interceptor. And when it is finally destroyed for good in the last chase in FR does Max become fully released from his madness. Does it make sense? I think there is a basis for it.
Re: Spoiler (The Interceptor)
OR...because Miller obviously loves playing with lose continuity, he just has his the BoB in the next episode, with no explantation.

This is EXACTLY what i felt when i saw the Interceptor being crushed, it's kinda sad that i'm more upset with this than Splendid's death because this isn't human i'm mourning here.Lonewolf wrote:But then the biggest heart breaker. Can't get over how slow the destruction of the car was. In the prequel comic book, it was mentioned that Max got the V8 engine for the Interceptor in the Thunderdome Plus. I hope the sequel we get to see Max get a new car from Thunderdome Plus that is as iconic as the (RIP) Interceptor, doubt it though.
I kinda think that even though the first chase was disapppointing and didn't show the car much, Max is really attached to it in FR than RW. The death scene shows it, and the look of Max's face when he sees it get crushed right in front of his eyes. In RW, Max didn't look as sad as he was in FR about the destruction of the Interceptor.

Re: Spoiler (The Interceptor)
Max is nearly dead in RW when the BoB gets blown up. I think he was a bit more concerned about himself.

Re: Spoiler (The Interceptor)
We don't actually see it destroyed - it starts to get a jammed between the two rigs and then we see Slit's face as it starts to roll.
It's rolled before and survived.
The War boys simply drag it back to the Citadel and put her back to work.
... I hope

Re: Spoiler (The Interceptor)
Furiosa owes Max, they could tow it back to the Citadel with the Gigahorse, aren't the war pups supposed to be mechanics? I think the Interceptor will be back, better than ever in shiny chrome for Max to tool around the wasteland upholding the halls of justice, defending the last bastions of civilization from evil mutant scum...rockatansky4073 wrote:We don't actually see it destroyed - it starts to get a jammed between the two rigs and then we see Slit's face as it starts to roll.

Re: Spoiler (The Interceptor)
Since the game takes place before Fury Road, Max could visit Chumbucket and take the Magnum Opus, rebuild it to become Interceptor lol
