What were they doing with the gas? (Spoilers)
What were they doing with the gas? (Spoilers)
I'm not a car guy at all. When they were spitting the gas into the blowers, what was that all about? How does that help them go faster?
I actually thought that was the most bat-shit crazy scene in the film. It was one of those wild moments where I just felt, I really don't know what's happening here, but it must be very important to them! (Kinda like the time a saw a giant line of people outside Tower Records waiting for a Slipknot record signing.)

Re: What were they doing with the gas?
I though they were putting water over the engines, not petrol, to cool the engines down to let them go harder without overheating
makes sense, but could be wrong

I'm sure there are people on here who can provide a way more technical answer (and please do!), but you're basically mixing additional fuel with the air intake into the engine, which is going to result in a higher fuel mix inside the engine, bigger explosions, and more power.
Absolutely loved this scene also

Yep kinda like nitrous oxides, when you fire up a Big block Hemi or the like being supercharged on the drag strip you prime it a squirt of Nitro methane

Its just like putting larger jets on a carby to increase fuel intake and add more grunt , they were doing it manually by spitting it down the intakes , frikkin awesome scene

Re: What were they doing with the gas? (Spoilers)
The only way I can see it technically working is;
a) If the engines were woefully under fuelled and using carburettors.
b) If they were increasing any forced induction pressure and adding fuel to match.
c) If the tank gas was a much lower octane and the engine was tuned to match bottled higher octane gas.

Slit and this scene are my absolute favourite in the entire movie!!!
i've seen it 4 times now and after the first viewing i started taking photos of the screen in that scene - cannot get enough.
SPOILER ALERT

I'm hoping like hell it survived that crushing between the 2 rigs and the simply towed it back to the Citadel again and rebuilt it.
It was simply too special to right it off this quick.
I mean as far as i could tell all it did was get some panel damage and then start to roll - and we know it's survived that twice before

Presumably for someone who knows where the battle took place there would be rich pickings for someone to scavenge later ... I wonder where Max wandered off to at the end ...rockatansky4073 wrote:I'm hoping like hell it survived that crushing between the 2 rigs and the simply towed it back to the Citadel again and rebuilt it.

More seriously, they probably wouldn't tow it back - it's on the other side of the canyon, and from the desert motorbike discussion it sounded as though going around that was pretty perilous. But maybe a fella on foot could sneak past the Rock Riders.

Call it "Fool Injection".
The whole idea was to block off the pass so no one can get thru, leaving all the bad guys stuck. If you can get the wreck of the Interceptor, they can get you. Until they die of thirst and starvation. But as I recall it was crushed and burned.
The real joke is that the car has died and come back more than Nux.

Re: What were they doing with the gas? (Spoilers)
I loved that scene because it conveyed so much about the relationship between these people and their cars and the gas that powers them. They were taking this highly toxic substance into their bodies and then using it to breathe new life into their vehicles. The scene made a powerful statement about how organically woven into the fabric of that world the cars were.
