Re: FURY ROAD COMIC CON TRAILER IS HERE!
Wow, I have to admit the trailer came out sooner than I expected and it does seem very exciting and action packed. I did notice a lot of the CGI, but after 30 years I'm not going to complain about it, it's just the way it is nowadays.
I wonder what's up with the baby dolls head at 1:33 and is Max really forcing Furiosa to drive at gunpoint at 1:44?
They say if "you've seen the trailer, you've seen the movie" but I don't think that's true in this case.

There are so many misconceptions in leadcouncil's post that I don't know where to start.

Kept watching the trailer and thinking of this classic Robt. Willaims print...

I've said it before that I haven't quite decided on MMFR yet. I, like you, believe that we can't judge the movie as great or crap based solely on the trailer. However, I say I haven't quite because I don't believe that a movie with unlimited bullets, Matrix style fighting, physically impossible or survivable stunts, Fast and Furious car chases, and implausible vehicles in a post apocalyptic world is something I would not want to see in the Mad Max universe. What made MM, MM2, and MM3 set the standard was the be livability of the world that George created. Things looked real and plausible because it was real and believable, yes I know the gyro ride was actually a Bell 206. However, I'm just worried that this has gone the way of the Matrix, Fast and Furious, and every Marvel movie because it is expected to be bigger, more explosive, and larger than the last action flick.
I also would have preferred Mel Gibson back in the role he defined and after seeing him in the Expendable flicks I am quite sure he would have been able to reprise his role and it could have better blended with the original trilogy.
Just my two cents.

Looks absolutely awesome. Doesn't look like they haven't gone to soft on the violence which is good
The part where Max gives the thumbs up reminds me of Max's heroic sacrifice at the end of MM:BT. Maybe that's just me.

Leadcouncil "Ask yourself WHY was MM and MM2 (and even if you liked MM3) where they sooo compelling and good"
I loved the original films because they were raw, powerful and were full of unforgettable imagery. Fury Road wont change that.
This isnt Star Wars, there a bunch of sub par prequels destroyed part of the myth for fans.
Unlike some I accept that Mel Gibson couldnt play this role anymore (maybe 15 years ago but not now...he hasnt aged in the right way...we wouldnt have got an "Unforgiven" Max). I also have to accept that cinema has moved on and much as I would have liked to have seen no CGI whatsoever, they need to aim this film at a new audience not a smattering of Max aficionados.
I love the trailer. I have some big reservations about elements of it but it seems to have the right DNA and it certainly doesnt look like a PG film. It also doesnt look like a conventional film as you seem to suggest...I dont see Fast and Furious here. Its not even as if the original trilogy shared a look anyway; Mad Max doesnt have a great deal in common with MM2 stylistically and MM3 buffed things up again to Hollywood proportions. I think most of us think of the second film as the high water mark from a cinematic and Mad Max World point of view.
I dont care about the timeline either because I believe that from MM2 onwards Miller has essentially been telling the same story from different view points (I wont bother banging on again here but have a look at my few previous posts...I'm probably not correct but its what I choose to believe!).
Finally I dont buy that the originals were built on pure logic; Max drove a V8, hardly a choice for fuel efficiency.
It's a pity that the trailer doesnt do anything for you...I'm buzzin!

Re: FURY ROAD COMIC CON TRAILER IS HERE!
Having read through some posts, I want to also add:
We all have equal validity as to whether we think it will be good, or bad, based on extremely limited information and a 3 minute preview.
I do think the trailer makes no sense, and thought the stomping on the lizard was just dumb (yes, I know and even expected he would eat this). Trailers often are out of order, and jumbled up, so I understand that. But we find our hero standing on a hilltop, in no particular hurry. He stomps on a lizard for which he could not have possibly known was there, with cartoon precision (could any of you blindly stomp on a lizard that runs up from behind you?). No urgency to his action, standing there gazing over the horizon. Calmly gets in his vehicle and drives off. INSTANTLY he has a dozen vehicles right on his tail... Come on... really?? So did he stop his car chase to gaze at the sunset and have a lizard treat?
We've got a band of highway thieves and marauders who apparently even a decade after the war have kept up their writing and tattoo skills... not a single spelling error in their tattoos... with words like "testicles" and some other interesting word choices. Really??
I found the trailer to be too busy, and victim to Hollywood shaky-cam, which I really don't like for extended periods. Designed for the most attention-deficit among us, we get a split second glimpse like watching the movie through a disco-ball effect of flashing scenes every moment so we really don't get to focus on anything. Also featured in popular AC/DC concert videos, where you get about 1/4 second per bandmember flashing through from 10 angles as quickly as possible... ruining the entire production.
Really hope they piece this together into a good story with some action, rather than a big video game car chase. But like MM and MM2, much of the BEST parts came during the downtime. The human moments in between the characters; the standoff at the compound with the Humungus; the scenes in the compound; etc. Of course we want good action. Congrats if they figured this out. But what makes the movie good is a good story. There needs to be ups and downs in the story, with some climaxes and lull times.
How much down time story is developed during a 90 minute car chase?
I sincerely hope I am totally wrong. I want to see the best movie ever made. I fear in the 3 minute preview it's going to be an awesome video game and a shit movie.

I will add that I'm not negatively influenced by Max not being played by Mel Gibson. I've approached with an open mind. I would have preferred Mel, but understand the logistics weren't right.
I also know Hardy has a strong resume. But from the few scenes in the trailer, I was left feeling neutral. It seemed he wasn't quite right. Time will tell, and the jury is still out. But I can say contrasted to Gibson, Gibson was simply perfect. From his first on scene appearance in MM and again in MM2, he just nailed every scene, every non-speaking facial expression is just perfect. I can say I did not feel that way with Hardy...

Indeed, but I really don't see what signing up here the day after the Fury Road trailer is realised just to pick apart everything you don't like is really bringing to the discussion. Especially given that a lot of what you've put forward is highly speculative and clearly massively biased.leadcounsel wrote:We all have equal validity as to whether we think it will be good, or bad, based on extremely limited information and a 3 minute preview.
Why not turn your frustrations into something positive? Why not write you own post apocalyptic movie to your own taste? That's what Miller did thirty years ago.

Re: FURY ROAD COMIC CON TRAILER IS HERE!
Can anyone simply answer how the Interceptor has lived? Seems like a plot point that is impossible to ignore.
How does it live from MM2 if MM2 predates MM4 or vice versa?
Tired of watching great franchises be ruined (Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Predator, Alien, etc. etc. etc.). Just let a great franchise die, rather than doing another movie and ruining it.
Nobody is required to use CGI. We can agree that MM1 and MM2 had none, and is probably among the best movies of all time, and better than ANY CGI movie ever made. MM1 was made on a shoestring budget. MM2 was made on a relatively small budget. So don't say they can't make a great film with minimal CGI and a small budget. That would be the courageous and pioneering thing to do, rather than bigger and bigger explosions. I do understand that CGI can fill in the gaps where needed, and this movie claims to use little CGI. I'm unconvinced, given the first thing we see is a CGI lizard, and huge CGI explosions and other absurd things. The reliance on CGI become tempting to violate the rules of gravity and physics. Soon, you have a Matrix movie on your hands, and that's not the world of MM. We also don't need a Fast and Furious, or Mission Impossible #7 on our hands either. Real cars and real stunts = reality. CGI = video games.
I would love to see it and report it's the best of the series. Sadly, I fear it will be the worst.
