Since no one can get their story straight I'll look at it like every other one in the series; as it's told by another character in the story like Rashomon. Making it in the timeline and with much more depth because it's told by different people interpreting a legendary character in a difficult world.

I swear that is absolutely the best fan theory I've ever stumbled upon.
Absolutely. Reminds me of David Finchers Zodiac, for each of the zodiac attacks a different actor portrays the zodiac. In each case they are based on the actual witness reports, thus each zodiac is slightly different. It's very subtle, but non the less very Rashomon!

I'm still hoping that it ties in with the Mad Max Trilogy! When I first heard the title was Anarchy Road, I thought Max was heading home. Then I heard it was a tie-in between Road Warrior and Thunderdome. But I keep seeing pics of a newer model Interceptor that makes me believe that it takes place between Mad Max and Road Warrior? I am brand new to this site and it's more than likely somewhere in these forums as to when exactly it takes place, but I for one always wondered what happened between 1 and 2 that made Max and the Interceptor change so drastically. When we last see Max in "Mad Max", he's clean-cut and the Interceptor is in near-pristine condition. Then when we see him again in the opening minute of Road Warrior, he's very rough and worn looking and the Interceptor has been through quite a lot! It would be great to see what happened. And it's awesome to hear that Hughe Keyes-Byrne is back! He was great as Toecutter. Maybe they can do a flashback scene with him as Toecutter or maybe a relative of the biker leader? Probably not, but it would be a nice nod to the original. Anyway, I'm excited about joining a forum site that shares enthusiasm for some of THE GREATEST FILMS EVER CREATED!! The Mad Max Universe is AWESOME, and I hope it continues way beyond these four films and keeps going without end. Thanks.

You can hope, but the truth is we'll never have a MAD MAX 1.5 and we'll never have a MAD MAX 4.
Some people will try to imagine anything in vain to fit this Fury Road somewhere in the old trilogy. Why not, but this is definitely not important, it's against the will of the creator, and it's non sense.

I don't know about never but it's extremely unlikely. If Fury Road and the Mad Max video game take off as a big franchise there's a chance we'll get sequels from the original timeline in a different form. Unfortunately, the idea of a proper live action Mad Max followup is dead and it probably died 10 years ago.

I prefer neither. If I had to choose I would go sequel.
LTDHO = Supercharged Intercooled 5.7L 360rwkw, 6 speed

XB Coupe = Stock Fairmont GS with 351 and 4 speed.

But I really want a 600rwhp XB coupe!

Internet rumor. George has said it's a reimagining aka reboot. WB official press release says as much too.

I think it's because of the Interceptor's presence in the film.

Bottom line, should have just rebooted Max the actor and not the films. I know Warner Bros are not interested bar dollars but its taken it away from those of us who have invested in parts 1, 2 and even 3!

Could have easily been set after Thunderdome or between the others with less outlandish characters BUT STILL AWESOME VEHICLES AND ACTION.

If the Interceptor is so crucial to return and warranted a reboot by virtue of its presence then why oh why get rid so early on??

Hence the easter eggs, which I'm sure will be plentiful.

IMO, when it became clear Mel wasn't returning, it made sense to start anew. Hardy continuing in Mel's footsteps is fraught with it's own set of problems.
